A popular YouTuber created a working copy of the ODM, or Omnidirectional Device, from Attack on Titan.
The ODM is the signature tool of the Reconnaissance Regiment, using it to destroy giants while exploring the world beyond the walls of humanity. Jlaservideo, whose channel specializes in recreating technological marvels from popular fiction, recently introduced the ODM and gave a detailed explanation of how it works. The device borrows design elements from one of the YouTuber’s earlier inventions; a version of the web shooter that Peter Parker used in the iconic Spider-Man comic book series.
In Attack on Titan, the ODM uses string darts that are launched from a device around the user’s hip. They attach to nearby buildings and trees, allowing the user to fly through the air at high speed. To replicate this functionality, Jlazervideo’s ODM uses a more powerful version of the C02 cartridge device used in his web shooter. To ensure the dart stays firmly on any surface, the device uses a miniature powder-activated hammer to push the dart deep into whatever it touches. Unlike the ODM in the program, Jlaservideo’s version has not one but two string darts on each side, fired simultaneously via a quick-release spring-loaded lever.
Also repurposed from Jlaservideo’s web shooters is the gear roll system, which uses two powerful motors attached to the frame and harness to wind the cable that shoots out from the sides. As for ODM swords and holders, they are made from light wood with 3D printed spacers to separate the individual blades. Just like in the chapter, the hilt allows the user to quickly remove and reassemble different blades. The device also contains a built-in laser pointer, which helps the user to aim as well as indicate which targets are within a 60 ft launch range. At the end of the video, the creative YouTuber puts the ODM to the ultimate test, facing a giant inflatable giant. Shooting the dart at the adjoining wall, he managed to run along its length and leapt forward, delivering a blow right to the neck of the giant.
Hajime Isayama’s Attack on Titan manga launched in Bessatsu Shonen Magazine in September 2009. It is currently among the 15 best-selling manga titles of all time, with more than 110 million copies sold worldwide. . The popular anime adaptation by MAPPA and WIT Studio is fast approaching its final season, as Attack on Titan: The Final Chapters Season 2 is scheduled to premiere in the fall of 2023.
