Kosuke Unagi writes the light novel I Left My A-List Party to Help My Former Students Reach the Depths of the Dungeon, featuring illustrations by Super Zombie. There is also a manga adaptation with illustrations by Yuri. Kodansha is publishing the novels (K Ranobe Books) and manga (Magazine Pocket), and they also license the manga in English through Kodansha USA.
The story follows a 'lowly' magician, Yuke Feldio, as he quits his A-rank party after being fed up with being a support for people far away who appreciate it. He forms a new group with three girls, who were his former students and who enjoy being around him. Now he realizes that he will have to teach them more if they want to achieve something and that they may have potential.
In terms of adventuring, supporting your party is a thankless job—even more so if you're just a lowly red mage like Yuke Feldio. So when he gets fed up with his party full of A-listers, he ditches them for some old students—a trio of girls who just dropped out of his company. The thing is, to conquer the world's greatest dungeon and achieve his dreams, he'll have to teach these cuties a thing or two…and he might know that inside him (and they) had more potential than he ever knew.
