A small theory but still big vegetarian come with in seven dragon pearls to explain the power Gohan displayed during Raditz’s battle was confusingly removed from the anime although it does explain why he and later Goten and Trunks became Super Saiyans so soon.
In chapter #204 of the Dragon Balls, when discussing reading Gohan’s power level from Raditz’s spy machine, Vegeta wonders if a Saiyan/human hybrid could be naturally stronger than a Saiyan. Nappa then linked Gohan’s powers with Super Saiyans and offered to breed many of these hybrids to rebuild the Saiyan empire, but he was knocked down by Vegeta as this would result in a bunch of kids stronger than them. . This theory later resurfaced to explain why Goten and Trunks were able to transform into Super Saiyans so soon, but unfortunately, it was dropped completely from the anime, leading to many fans all over the world. The world doesn’t know about it.
Vegeta’s hybrid theory is one of Dragon Ball’s most interesting topics
The fascinating thing about this ability is that Saiyans are naturally much stronger than humans. It is thought that mixing two extremely powerful species will produce an even stronger hybrid, while mixing Saiyan blood with the blood of an “inferior” species will have the opposite result. . Instead, Dragon Ball broke expectations showing that mixing different DNAs can create the strongest warriors. It’s unclear why Vegeta’s words were dropped from the anime, but his theory will be even more controversial later in the series.
Years after Dragon Ball Z ended, Akira Toriyama came up with an S-Cells retcon, explaining some key moments in the series in a completely different way. According to this theory, all Saiyans possess these cells in their biology and a certain degree of Super Saiyan transformation is required. S cells can be increased through regular training or by being kind, and then they are inherited. This explains why Gohan was so powerful at a young age and why Goten and Trunks obtained the Super Saiyan at such a young age without training or the famous “rage trigger”. Many fans don’t like this retcon and one of its most important effects is that it completely overrides Vegeta’s theory of hybrids, which is a lot more interesting.
Frieza and King Cold are also hybrids
Sticking to this theory that the strength of Gohan, Goten, and Trunks depends on their being of mixed race, Dragon Ball Z has a track record of portraying hybrids as being stronger than others. Frieza and even his father, King Cold are prime examples. They are said to be particularly powerful, partly due to mutants. In fact, their family became part of a random random mutation starting with Frieza’s grandfather (and King Cold’s father) that caused the two to evolve into a hybrid species. Of course, there are plenty of villains in Dragon Ball Z and beyond who are extremely powerful, but the correlation still exists. Cut off Vegeta’s hybrid theory from seven dragon pearls the anime ultimately matches Toriyama’s next S-Cells retcon, but it deprives fans of one of the most enjoyable aspects of the entire series.
