most iconic Yu-Gi-Oh! The cards are almost no longer relevant in the anime after the series they debuted, but one classic card, Mirror Force, really went on to change the games of the later series. This is surprising given how much the game has evolved over the years, but while the new summoning mechanic of Yu-GiOh! – such as the Link Summon used in VRAINS – might have made the overall power level of the game higher, it also occasionally produced some iconic cards that seemed better than before.
As the franchise has evolved, its associated card game has also changed dramatically. After Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, each new anime introduced a new summoning mechanic. These new rules often make it easier for duels to use their strongest monsters and thus increase the overall power level of the game. This is part of the reason why Yu-Gi-Oh! series that completely changed the game.Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS introduced Link Summons. powerful monsters that are easy to summon, but can only be played in Attack mode. This leaves them vulnerable to a particularly iconic card from the early days of Yu-Gi-Oh!: Mirror Force.
Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS Makes Mirror Force Strong Again
Link monsters are only played during attack making it impossible for duel players to easily play around the Mirror Force trap card. This is a trap that destroys all monsters in the opponent’s attack position when they attack. The anime actually viewed this interaction so brutally that it presented the Mirror Force as a mysterious and powerful threat used by the villain Revolver. Revolver used this trap to defeat various powerful duels, even using some new support cards based on Mirror Force to make it even more powerful. This is a great way for Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS to pay homage to a classic card while making its main villain more dangerous.
This is especially refreshing given how rare it is for Yu-Gi-Oh! series to actually use the older card. Sometimes cards in the anime will refer to earlier versions in earlier sets, like Kuriboh, the surprising monster that appears in most of the Yu-Gi-Oh! mass in one form or another. In practice, however, it is much rarer to use an unchanged version of the old card. This makes sense because it allows Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game to get new fans excited about its new products (and thus buying them), but it can often be disappointing for old card fans who want to see them shine. Luckily, Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS solves this problem perfectly with the use of Mirror Force.
Mirror Force Becomes Strong Card, But Only In Anime
Interestingly, the Mirror Force power level in the anime didn’t become a real threat in the card game when Link was introduced. This can cause the characters’ fear of the card in Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS may seem a bit silly from a real-world gameplay perspective, but somehow the anime makes this threat believable and feels original. Yu-Gi-Oh! Fans paying deep respects to a classic card can attract new fans to invest in it.
