Warning: Spoiler for One Piece Manga Chapter #1087 Luffy’s grandfather Garp finally calls Monkey D. Dragon his son, which puts an end to a A piece fan theory that Luffy may be related to Rocks D. Xebec, this is still a possibility. Luffy’s mother’s identity remains unrevealed in the 1087 chapters of One Piece. This has led to some interesting theories about the character who was absent from Luffy’s life and the events of the series. One suggestion is that Garp’s child is in fact Luffy’s mother, with Dragon taking the name Monkey D. to conceal his lineage from the world’s most feared villain One Piece, Rocks D. Xebec.
Ever since Garp was introduced, the nature of his relationship with Luffy’s parents has remained a mystery. Up until chapter #1087, Garp never called Dragon his son, with the character using vague words that could refer to Luffy’s mother. However, the latest chapter of One Piece features a flashback of Vice Admiral Garp’s training with Kuzan before he became an Admiral or one of the Ten Titanic Captains of the Blackbeard Pirates. In a flashback, Garp clears all doubts that Dragon is his biological son by venting his frustrations to his apprentice, saying, “Can’t believe my son is a damn revolutionary!!” However, Oda may still have a shocking family connection to reveal to Luffy’s mother.
Dragon is officially Garp’s son, not his son-in-law
The reason Garp doesn’t consider Dragon his son may be because his status as a Navy hero would be tarnished by his son’s decision to become a revolutionary. His reputation was further diminished by Luffy’s rise as one of the Yonko Pirates. Although many of his relatives have caused countless problems for the World Government, Garp’s accomplishments and his status as Navy Hero may have helped keep the Navy together. The morale of their soldiers would drop without him. However, the name “Monkey D.” has become a mighty name in the current One Piece world.
Portgas D. Ace used his mother’s name instead of his father’s name, Gol D. Roger, meaning that Dragon wouldn’t be the only One Piece character to remain anonymous. While Luffy’s father’s real name has been confirmed, Luffy’s mother has not. Oda has previously stated that he believes mothers represent the opposite of adventure, which could mean she has nothing to do with One Piece’s story. However, this information also fuels fan theories that she could be the daughter of the former Captain of the Rocks Pirates or the series’ world ruler, Imu, who will become the final obstacle in the way of her son’s adventure to become the Pirate King.
Luffy’s parents continue to be one of the most intriguing mysteries of the series. Dragon’s ultimate goal and its massive role in the Straw Hats’ exploration of One Piece is still unclear as to whether Luffy’s mother will appear in the series. While the story of A piece it might have been more interesting to some if Luffy hadn’t ended up becoming the grandson of the Hero of the Navy and history’s most notorious pirate, which hasn’t stopped fans from theorizing about plot twists like his mother being the Crocodile or being related to the Rocks.
