My Hero Academia revealed some of the tough training All Might went through during his time as Gran Torino's apprentice, and it turns out that Bakugo and Deku were much further along than that. The valuable skill in question is survival in the wild, as Gran Torino sends the trio to a deserted island to fend for themselves.
Deserted island training is not entirely uncommon in anime, although it is often seen as a particularly harsh means of teaching students a lesson, as in Fullmetal Alchemist. In My Hero Academia: Team-Up Missions, Deku and Bakugo are left on a deserted island by Gran Torino, a reminiscence of the training he put All Might through years ago. All Might is still traumatized by the experience and decides to stay with the boys, hoping to spare them from such suffering, but it turns out that Bakugo and Deku are quite well equipped to survive, much to All Might's shock.
In fact, All Might proved to be nearly useless during his time on the island.
Deku and Bakugo's survival skills far surpass All Might's
The boys have proven they can handle the grueling training of Gran Torino.
In chapter 24 of Team-Up Missions, the boys are left on the island and soon begin building a shelter for themselves. Bakugo quickly builds himself a rather impressive treehouse while All Might is busy remembering how hard it was for him to do the same. When it comes to gathering food, All Might stops Deku from gathering some poisonous mushrooms, which he accidentally ate and became sick from during his time on the island. Deku and Bakugo are able to fish quite easily, although Bakugo threatens Deku into dropping the fish. Meanwhile, All Might is left with a flashback to all the disasters that happened to him on the island.
Deku and Bakugo seem to have much better survival skills than All Might did at their age, and it is eventually revealed that Gran Torino did not actually abandon them, but instead stayed on the island to keep an eye on them to make sure no one got into serious trouble. Bakugo was not amused by the situation, but he succeeded nonetheless.
Will Deku and Bakugo ever surpass All Might in strength?
Deku and Bakugo still have a long way to go to defeat All Might's Prime
While Deku and Bakugo have become powerful heroes in their own right, and their powers are quite different from what All Might has to work with, they still struggle when compared to All Might at his best. All Might is capable of resolving a situation in seconds before rushing to the next disaster, and delivering a punch that no one can withstand – even All for One would have a hard time surviving a fight with All Might. In terms of sheer power, Deku might be on par with him when using Full Cowling plus Gearshift, but he suffers far greater consequences when using that level of power than All Might.
Deku and Bakugo may be superior to All Might when it comes to survival situations, but All Might in his prime is still a standard the boys have yet to reach. My Hero Academia.
