Ai Hoshino from Oshi no Ko gets the happy ending that anime fans believe she deserves in this fan-made commercial for Minute Burger.
A YouTuber, Victor Coelho, animated an advertisement for a fast food chain in the Philippines, based on the 90 minute premiere of Oshi no Ko. In the original anime version, Episode 1 of Oshi no Ko ends with the murder of Ai by an avid fan, who then takes his own life after realizing the seriousness of his actions. In the fan-generated ad, the idol stalker is reimagined as a Minute Burger food delivery worker who delivers to Ai after her successful live performance. The ad, less than 10 seconds long, ends with Ai posing in a stylized smug look.

On Facebook, Minute Burger acknowledged fan-made ads, while Oshi no Ko fans left interesting comments in the reply section. In the past, anime fans have done many funny commercials for their favorite burgers. Previous parodies include Chainsaw Man, Mazinger Z, and Genshin Impact. As seen on its social media timeline, Minute Burger also honors its anime cosplay customers.
While the story of Oshi no Ko wouldn’t have started without Ai’s tragic ending, the fan-made Minute Burger ad really isn’t too different from what was originally envisioned for story series. Aka Akasaka, the author of Oshi no Ko and Kaguya-sama: Love Is War, mentioned in a 2021 interview that Ai originally lived in the first version of the story and will be entering the entertainment industry along with it. with her children, Aqua and Ruby Hoshino. However, Akasaka killed Ai – literally – out of fear that she would steal attention from her children, whom the author intended to be the dual protagonist of the series.
Oshi no Ko’s Dark Storyline
Oshi no Ko sheds light on the entertainment industry while examining the complex relationship between talent and fans. Many cases in the series are inspired by real-life events, such as Ai’s death based on the Mayu Tomita stabbing, a horrific attack that happened on May 21, 2016. Episode 6 of This anime television series was criticized for basing its plot on the tragic suicide of professional wrestler Hana Kimura. Kyoko Kimura, Hana Kimura’s mother, was displeased with the way Oshi no Ko used elements of her daughter’s life as fuel for a story about the dangers of cyberbullying.
Oshi no Ko is currently streaming on HIDIVE. The manga is written by Akasaka and illustrated by Mengo Yokoyari. Yen Press is handling the release of the manga in English.
