Hajime Isayama, creator of the hit manga Attack on Titan, is returning to the manga world after a well-deserved break.
Since the end of Attack on Titan in April 2021, Isayama has taken a break from the demanding monthly manga creation. However, fans of his storytelling will be excited to know that he is currently working on a new project.
Fans expecting more stories from the Attack on Titan world may need to temper their expectations, as Isayama's upcoming work will explore new territory.
Isayama is collaborating with voice actor Yuki Kaji, who is known for playing Eren Yeager in the anime Attack on Titan, to create a one-volume manga.
This one-volume manga is part of the “Soyogi Fractal Project” and was announced to celebrate Kaji's 20th anniversary as a voice actor. The project revolves around a voice synthesis (AI) software called “Bonso Soyogi” that uses Kaji's voice to create AI songs.

The goal of “Soyogi Fractal” is to provide a space for creators, both professional and amateur, to develop interesting works without restrictions alongside like-minded individuals.
Yuki Kaji came up with the initial idea for this one-volume manga, while Isayama handled the story. Interestingly, Isayama will not be drawing the manga himself.

Isayama commented on the challenges of returning to manga after focusing solely on Attack on Titan for over a decade. “It's been about 10 years since I drew a manga other than Attack on Titan, and I realized how difficult it is to draw manga,” he said. “However, since I'm not someone who really draws, it's nice to be able to draw as many complex layouts as I want and leave it to someone else.”
Fans can expect to read this one-volume manga in Weekly Shonen Magazine or Bessatsu Shonen Magazine, both published by Kodansha, sometime in the summer of 2024. Although it may not be a sequel to Attack on Titan story, but the chance to see Isayama's writing style applied to a new take on this concept remains an exciting prospect.
