What happened in Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Episode #27?
The first part of Frieren’s episode #27 focuses on the aftermath of the second phase of the First Class Mage exam, where Fern destroys the precious staff she received from Heiter. When Frieren suggested she buy a new one, she was annoyed by the insensitivity. However, Frieren tried his best to repair the stick, searching all over town for someone who could put it back together. Richter, one of the failed contestants, runs a magic shop and he has the ability to repair the staff. This beautiful moment shows Frieren’s progress in trying to understand other people’s emotions despite her awkward and distant nature.
The unexpected happened when Serie, the most knowledgeable and powerful magician, walked into the third test proctor. Because there are too many contestants left due to Frieren, Serie wants to reduce the number. When Frieren learned Serie was in charge of the exam, she immediately knew she would fail due to their past interactions. However, she is confident that Fern will pull through, and she tells Serie that she will be blown away by her student. Indeed, she was impressed that Serie tried to recruit her as his student, but Fern refused. In the end, Fern passed the Mage Exam first class while Frieren did not.
Frieren embarked on her next journey
The general purpose of Frieren and Fern’s participation in the First Class Mage Exam is to travel to the northernmost region of the continent, an area inhabited by many demons. Therefore, no one is allowed to pass without a first-class magician accompanying them. Now that Fern has achieved that rank, the three can continue their journey north to meet the souls of their loved ones. Final episode of Freezing: Beyond Journey’s End will reveal the results of other contestants, such as Denken and Wirbel, and see Frieren, Fern and Stark begin their new adventures.
