After Naruto Shippuden ended, fans were all looking forward to what would happen next when Boruto appeared. However, is Boruto really Masashi Kishimoto’s next plan after Naruto?
Kishimoto’s true plan was answered by the author himself in an interview with Weekly Shonen Jump. Turns out the Naruto author wanted to reset the story. Like rebooting and working with a different artist, in the style of US comics, like what happened with Spider-Man and Hulk.
These characters have gone through several iterations and have had different movies, with stories starting over from the beginning, giving new looks to familiar characters and exploring more of what was left out. again.
Kishimoto said that he did not want to continue Naruto’s story because in his personal opinion, he had already told everything he wanted. What he really wanted was to shake up the Naruto universe, by starting from scratch, with the freedom to take the characters on new adventures without being tied to what had come before. Imagine, a new world with Naruto just like always, but with new stories!
But this idea was not successful because the entire editorial team put all their heart and soul into the Boruto project and there was no way back.
Boruto’s appearance brought with him many new things in the period of scientific and technological development, even making some Naruto fans feel a bit uncomfortable. With the appearance of super powerful robots, traditional ninjas look like museum pieces.
If the Naruto reboot project is successful, the plot could slow down and focus more on supporting characters like Rock Lee and Neji Hyuga. Either way, there are a lot of possibilities, and since Kishimoto already has this idea in mind, he probably has the foundation for what he wants. But unfortunately everyone started with the Boruto project and there was no way for Kishimoto to carry out his intention.
