Father's Day is right around the corner, and what better way for us anime fans to honor the amazing fathers and mentors in our lives than with a heartwarming anime marathon?
To fit the occasion, we've curated shows on Crunchyroll that showcase the true meaning of fatherhood – through resilience, guidance, and unconditional love.
So grab some popcorn, mingle with that special person in your life, and watch these great anime!
1. Spy x Family (for the hot new dad – Loid Forger)
Genre: Comedy, Drama, Shonen Available in English and other regional dubs Link to show
In the midst of the Cold War, spy master Loid Forger adopts Anya, a telepathic orphan, and marries Yor, a deadly assassin, to create the perfect cover for his mission. me.
Loid may not be the biological father, but his dedication to protecting Anya and providing a loving home shines through his stoic exterior.
It may be his steadfast commitment to carrying out his mission, however, he gradually begins to grasp the nuances of fatherhood and eventually becomes a prominent character in the comedy This touching tablet.
2. Buddy Daddies (for Kazuki Kurusu and Rei Suwa):
Two professional assassins, Kazuki and Rei, suddenly find themselves raising a young girl named Miri. This unconventional family overcomes the challenges of parenthood while balancing their dangerous careers.
Kazuki and Rei's contrasting personalities and unique approaches to child care create a fun and warm dynamic, making them a memorable father figure duo. You can keep staring at Rei throughout the movie for all I care!
This cartoon is quite similar to Spy x Family, and – when you have two equally dashing dad characters, it becomes the perfect choice for a Dad Session Binge of the Day! Two is better than one – as Taylor Swift famously said in her song!
3. Kakushigoto (for the dedicated single father – Kakushi)
Now, this is a criminally underrated anime that I feel you all should watch. The plot follows Kakushi Goto, a manga artist famous for his obscene works, who hides his profession from his young daughter Hime.
He goes to great lengths to protect her innocence, creating a hilarious web of lies and misunderstandings to prevent her from finding out the truth.
Kakushi's overprotective nature and steadfast love for Hime make him a trustworthy and lovable father. It's an emotional and funny ride, and definitely one of the best shows on the list. My heart goes out to Kakushi, I feel that guy!!
4. Barakamon (for Handa Seishu):
Ah yes, Barakamon is one of my favorite anime, and one that I return to from time to time! The plot follows Handa, a talented but arrogant calligrapher who is exiled to a remote island after punching an art critic.
This strange place changed him and he began to appreciate the little things in life. As the town relaxes and its residents teach him valuable life lessons, he gradually sheds his arrogant personality.
His interactions with the energetic Naru are definitely the highlight of the film.
Now, Handa Seishu may not be the biological father or the adoptive father. However, he plays the role of mentor to young Naru perfectly (whether he wants it or not) and eventually wins hearts.
5. My Home Hero – (for Tetsuo Tosu fiercely defending):
Tetsuo Tosu, is an ordinary salaryman, someone who does not fit the standards of a mastermind hero. However, when he discovered that his daughter was being abused by her boyfriend (who had ties to the Yakuza), he took some drastic measures to protect her.
This leads him down a dark path. Tetsuo's fierce love for his daughter and willingness to do whatever it takes to keep her safe makes him a complex and compelling father.
Trust me, you will get serious Drishyam vibes with his anime and if thriller series are your forte, then you should blindly pick this one!!
6. My daughter left the nest and returned as an S-Rank Adventurer (for uber-powered Belgrieve):
Next on this list, we have an anime for fantasy lovers!
Young adventurer Belgrieve has retired to a quieter life after losing a leg to a beast. One day, while collecting herbs in the forest, he rescued an abandoned child, Angeline, and adopted her.
Angeline trained with her father and later achieved S Rank in the capital's adventurer guild. Five years later, she decided to return home.
Belgrieve's steadfast love for his daughter and pride in her achievements make him a touching example of a supportive father figure.
