It's hard to deny that Solo Leveling's pacing is perfect for everyone to enjoy. It's neither too fast like the webtoon nor too slow to lose anyone's attention. Even producer Furuhashi pointed out how they had to add “meat” to the anime to make it a worthwhile adaptation.
On the other hand, One Piece has an uneven and unpredictable pace, even making it difficult for many people. The pacing becomes extremely slow after the timeskip with Fishman Island.
Main character differences
In Solo Leveling, we witness the journey of a frail and weak young man who becomes a ruthless hunter. Jin Woo experiences some rather sad events, which bring about distinct psychological changes in him, contributing to the development of his character.
Luffy, despite his adorable personality, still comes across as a one-dimensional shonen protagonist. He's gone through some character development, but who hasn't after 1000 episodes?
One Piece was not an instant hit
One Piece takes time to become cute and every fan has their own theory about the episodes, then the anime can become interesting. Some say the Arlong Park arc (Episodes 31-44) is when the real deal begins, while others claim everything will be fine in the Alabasta arc (Episodes 92–130).
Solo leveling is good right from the start of the first episode. The shock factor in episode 1 keeps you fascinated and wondering about the fate of the characters. Plus, almost every episode ends on a cliffhanger, making you crave the next episode even more.
Leveling alone has better animations
One Piece started back in 1999, and it's only natural that the animation in the older episodes isn't as good as the newer ones. Toei Animation, its studio, has done a remarkable job over the years, making fans fall in love with the show with their work.
But when we compare that animation to Solo Leveling, which has even more impressive visuals than some of the newer shows, the winner is pretty clear. A-1 Pictures, Solo Leveling's studio, has really taken its precious time to produce one of the best animated series this year.
Solo leveling is over
Even though Solo Leveling is just getting started, with a potential 2nd season already in talks, people really expect it to come to an end. On the other hand, One Piece fans are still hoping for a conclusion because, unlike Solo Leveling, the source material itself is still ongoing.
There have also been debates about the potential benefits of continuing such a long anime series only to find a hidden treasure. The fact that there were conflicting opinions about the nature and location of the treasure did not help the case much.
One Piece is definitely one of the best movies ever made. It is part of the Big 3 and is also one of the reasons behind the growth of the global anime community today. However, Solo Leveling is also becoming a huge phenomenon and while One Piece's impact is greater, Solo Leveling is also proving that it is a force to be reckoned with.
