Magic: The Gathering and the Pokémon Trading Game, eat your heart out
Guinness World Records is by far one of the best quiz books available. From serious to silly, you'll find almost every note in the book. Of course, some records can be seen as hype, such as Animate Ikebukuro being recently named the largest anime store/shop. And even if some records are just gimmicks, they can still be a lot of fun… like Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series Japan Tokyo 2024 brings two new Guinness World Records. The official X (formerly Twitter) account for Yu-Gi-Oh! The card game officially revealed on April 30 that the 10th Anniversary of Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series Japan Tokyo 2024 brought home the records of “Most participants in a trading card game tournament” and “Largest trading card game tournament”.

According to Yu-Gi-Oh! Official Card Game website, record for “Most trading participants in card game tournament” held on April 28 and “Largest card game tournament” on April 28 and April 29 combined. The home page also notes that this event can have 8,000 attendees, so there are standards for Guinness World Records to consider before making a judgment. Unfortunately, neither the aforementioned tweet nor the homepage list the number of participants for either recording. However, Oricon News cited a total of 7,443 people as having attended.
While only one person, Yūtarō Takahashi, won the Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series Japan Tokyo 2024, each event attendee receives a special 10th Anniversary promotional card. The card is called “Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series” with the event logo and 10th card image. In place of any card effects in the text box, the Guinness World Records and “Record Holder” stamps will be printed. It's a nice little souvenir for event attendees.

It may be only a matter of time before The Pokémon Company or Wizards of the Coast strikes back with either of the records set by the Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series Japan Tokyo 2024. But until that happens, Yu-Gi-Oh! The official card game is the king of games.
