4Kids dub Yu-Gi-Oh! The franchise has many flaws, but perhaps the biggest of them all is that they didn’t adapt a duel that fans wanted to see most: Yugi vs Jaden. This duel takes place at the end of the second series Yu-Gi-Oh! GX and features an epic battle between the first two main characters, Yugi and Jaden. However, 4Kids never actually dub this final season into English, causing fans to miss out on this great moment.
What makes this particularly tragic is how the show has built this confrontation in the first place. At the beginning of the first episode, Jaden ran into Yugi, who gave him the winged Kuriboh, which would become one of Jaden’s signature cards. Later in the series, Jaden is confronted by a Yugi impersonator who has stolen the Game King’s deck. And of course, in the process GX Jaden grows to become a protagonist strong enough to compete with Yugi herself like many Yu-Gi-Oh! the main characters will follow him. All of this naturally culminates in the final matchup between Jaden and Yugi in the series’ finale.
Yu-Gi-Oh! GX dub doesn’t adapt to Jaden and Yugi .’s epic battle
In the final two-part episode of Yu-Gi-Oh! The fourth season of GX, this matchup finally happened with Jaden being sent back in time to face Yugi right after the Battle City tournament ended. The match itself was super fun as both players brought out their own trump monsters and repeatedly countered the other’s. The match was so intense that near the end Yami Yugi got in on the action, taking over in time to take down the Egyptian God Slifer the Sky Dragon. Unfortunately, at this point, the show is cut from the game, leaving the ultimate winner in the dark. However, it is clear that both main characters have a lot of respect for each other and have had a great time dueling. This makes the duel extremely enjoyable and satisfying to watch, which is a pity that 4Kids never adapted it.
The most censored of the 4Kids dubs of Yu-Gi-Oh! The anime includes reducing violence and eliminating particularly dark moments. But when it comes to Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, they didn’t tweak the entire finale, ending the series on a very awkward note. Similarly, they cut the ending of Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D series, but the remaining duels, while important, are nowhere near as great as this duel between Yugi and Jaden. Fans often speculate about the variety of Yu-Gi-Oh! The main characters will stack up in a duel, and this is one of the few moments in the entire series that suggests an answer. While US fans got to see a Pokemon Ash and Yugi crossover that Japanese fans never got to see, this is unofficial and doesn’t make up for the loss of the GX finale.
Of course, dub fans will eventually get to see Yugi and Jaden meet in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Bonds are timeless, but they don’t actually duel each other in that movie. Even later, the fifth series Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V will feature a cross between minor characters from different series, but this again doesn’t feature any of the main characters dueling each other. So fans of Yu-Gi-Oh! gx the voiceover who missed the original ending needs to see Yugi and Jaden’s final match to see how great the two main characters fight each other.
