YouTube will eliminate 100 positions, TechCrunch reported Thursday. The company’s chief business officer Mary Ellen Coe said in the internal memo making the announcement that the 100 laid-off employees will have the opportunity to apply for other positions at the company.
The workers will have 60 days to secure news positions at the company before a decision to lay them off is finalized.
According to Deadline,”the cuts will come from unionizing employees who provide support to YouTube content creators.”
The layoffs come after parent company Google eliminated 1,000 jobs in engineering, services and Google Assistant. A Google spokesperson told The New York Times that “we are investing responsibly in the company’s biggest priorities and the important opportunities ahead.”
Several companies including Amazon Prime, Amazon-owned Twitch and unity have announced layoffs in the last month.
