Although it is GameScience's first project, Black Myth: Wukong has really not disappointed anyone who expected it.
Almost close to perfection, the game itself still has a lot to explore ahead with an open storyline and promising DLCs in the future. And in the success of Black Myth: Wukong, we cannot ignore the role of Feng Ji – CEO of GameScience and known as the father of Black Myth: Wukong.
People often know Feng Ji by the story of starting his career at Tencent, but few people know that, when he was young, Feng Ji was a true online game enthusiast. He was even “addicted” to playing online games, in this case World of Warcraft, to the peak. In early 2005, Feng Ji dropped out of school, moved to live in Internet cafes and even had to borrow money with the sole purpose of satisfying his World of Warcraft addiction. Fortunately, that period of confusion did not last long.
Feng Ji then started his game development career at Tencent and took on the role of project leader for Asura – also a game inspired by the character Sun Wukong. However, due to differences in direction, he and 7 colleagues left Tencent and founded GameScience, and initially, the team focused on developing mobile games to sustain. However, the first projects all failed. However, Feng Ji was not discouraged.
GameScience initially had only about 20 people, but after the success of the first trailer for Black Myth: Wukong in 2020, they received reverse investment from Tencent, and at the same time attracted and expanded their scale to 140 people.
And the rest is history. After 6.5 years of development and over $70 million in production costs, the blockbuster Black Myth: Wukong has finally taken shape and broken countless unprecedented records. Feng Ji himself is now very successful and thanks to his past love of gaming, we now have such an excellent Black Myth: Wukong.
