Among the countless mysteries and enigmatic characters in One piece, Happy boy is certainly the most intriguing and has been the subject of countless theories since his appearance. The mystery surrounding Joyboy's identity is as thick as the mystery surrounding Void Century.
Fortunately, Eiichiro Oda has finally begun to delve deeper into the character of Joyboy, kicking off the Final Saga of One Piece through the big reveal made during the Egghead Arc. At the same time, the Vegapunk broadcast revealed a lot of interesting details about the mysterious first pirate, and while there's still a lot to speculate about about Joyboy, there are quite a few undeniable facts.
13 Joyboys Still Alive in the Void Century
First revealed in Chapter #628 and further explained in Chapter #649
While the residents of the One Piece world have only recently learned of Joyboy's existence through Vegapunk's message, the revelation that Joyboy lives in the Void Century is one of the earliest established facts about him accompanying his introduction in chapter #628. This is evident from the simple fact that Joyboy was mentioned on a Poneglyph created during the Void Century.
Of course, King Neptune later confirmed that Joyboy was indeed a character from the Void Century shortly after in chapter #649, and since then, the two have been on good terms. Roger and Vegapunk also confirmed this fact.
12 Joyboy wrote an apology letter to Fishman Island
First explanation in Chap #649
One of the first and biggest reveals about Joyboy came during the Fish-Man Island Arc, shortly after Joyboy was first introduced in chapter #628. During this arc, Robin came across a Poneglyph engraved with an apology from a mysterious figure named Joyboy, and in chapter #649, Neptune explains that the apology was sent to the Mermaid Princess in the Void Century for not keeping her promise to Fish-Man Island.
According to King Neptune, the exact content of Joyboy's promise is unknown, but it is closely related to Noah. Neptune has hinted that Noah's goal is similar to Otohime's dream of bringing Fish-Man Island to the surface. Therefore, Joyboy's promise may involve using Poseidon's ability to command the Neptunians to move Noah to accomplish something similar to Otohime's dream. Although there are still many gaps in the story, Joyboy's apology and promise to Fish-Man Island are still among the few concrete facts known about him.
11 Zunesha and Emet share a close bond with Joyboy
Revealed in Chap #1040, Chap #1120 and Chap #1122
Another well established fact about Joyboy is that he has a close relationship with Zunesha and Emet, also known as the Iron Giant. While Zunesha is mentioned by Momonosuke as Joyboy's companion, Emet, in his own words, has hinted that he has fought for Joyboy in the past.
Both have also had a lot nostalgic reaction when hearing Liberation Drum and seeing Joyboy again with Emet especially expressing his happiness countless times. The exact details of their friendship with Joyboy remain unclear although fans have speculated that Zunesha and Emet may be teammates of Joyboy, similar to Chopper and Franky.
It is unclear how Momonosuke learned that Zunesha was Joyboy's companion. So fans can only take Momonosuke's word for it, although it is possible that he learned this fact from Zunesha himself or from Oden's diary.
10 Joyboy leaves a treasure in Laugh Tale that makes Roger laugh
First revealed in Chap #967
While One Piece was long believed to be Roger's treasure, the contents of Oden's diary has since revealed that the treasure actually belongs to Joyboy.. Chapter #967 describes Roger's journey to Laugh Tale and when he finds One Piece, Roger is amazed at the treasure Joyboy left behind and calls it a “tale full of laughter”.
The Egghead Arc added to the intrigue surrounding One Piece as Vegapunk described it as a treasure that could decide the fate of the world. Vegapunk also hinted that Joyboy may have intended for a specific person to find One Piece although anyone other than the individual Joyboy desired could have received it.
9 Joyboy is the first pirate
First revealed in Chap #1114
One of Vegapunk's most shocking messages is that Joyboy is the first pirate in the One Piece world. Up until this point, not much is known about Joyboy's personality other than it is implied that he wants to make people happy as his name implies.
However, this revelation by Dr. Vegapunk in chap #1114 is valid. ties Joyboy into One Piece's larger themes of freedom and ambitionJoyboy being the first pirate also reinforces the sense of legacy associated with One Piece and the title of Pirate King.
8 Joyboys of the Ancient Kingdom
First revealed in Chap #1114
While Ancient Kingdom and Joyboy have both been linked to the larger mystery of the Void Century for a long time, it wasn't until Vegapunk's worldwide broadcast in chapter #1114 that this connection was confirmed. Interestingly, the fact that Joyboy belongs to the Ancient Kingdom was also subtly foreshadowed by Rayleigh in chapter #967 when he called One Piece a giant treasure left behind by the creators of the Ancient Weapons.
It has yet to be confirmed whether the Ancient Kingdom actually created the Ancient Weapons, although Joyboy's desire to pass them on and the Ancient Kingdom's description as a scientifically advanced and powerful nation makes this highly likely.
7 Joyboy and his faction fought against twenty kingdoms
First revealed in Chap #1115
After the shocking revelation that Joyboy belongs to the Ancient Kingdom, Vegapunk's message in chapter #1115 also confirms that Joyboy actually fought against the rulers of twenty kingdoms during the Void Century.who eventually formed the World Government. Instead, as Vegapunk says, the twenty rulers formed a temporary army called the Alliance to defeat Joyboy and his faction.
While Vegapunk's message was cut off just as he was about to speak of the mysterious initial D, Imu's description of the D family as former enemies of the World Government who once opposed them hints that D Clan is most likely Joyboy's faction or the citizens of the Ancient Kingdom to which Joyboy also belongs.
6 Joyboy is a former user of Nika Fruit
First revealed in Chapter #1043 and confirmed in Chapter #1122
Along with the surprising revelation that Luffy's Devil Fruit is not the Gum-Gum Fruit but the Nika Fruit, Luffy's awakening in Wano also subtly confirmed that Joyboy was the one who used this Devil Fruit through Zunesha. In chapter #1043, when Luffy awakened the power of the Nika Fruit, Zunesha Hears Luffy's Special Heartbeator the drums of liberation, and says Joyboy is backIt is implied that Joyboy also possesses similar powers and a joyful heartbeat and may have awakened the Nika Fruit.
Dr. Vegapunk cleared up any lingering doubts in chapter #1122 when he described Joyboy as someone who fights with a stretchy body like the Sun God Nika in his message to the world. Overall, this revelation finally links Joyboy to Luffy with the Nika Fruit and Power becomes the physical manifestation of Joyboy's inherited will that Luffy will probably have to do.
5 Joyboy can use a transformation similar to Gear Five
Revealed in Chap #1043 and Chap #1115
While Zunesha all but confirmed that Joyboy was a previous user of the Nika Fruit and had awakened it, chapter #1115 finally revealed that Joyboy also uses the same transformation ability as Gear Five. Despite a few minor differences, it seems that Joyboy possesses all of the same Gear Five powers and quirks as Luffy, and even more.
It's possible that Joyboy's silhouette in Gear Five in chapter #1115 is simply Vegapunk's vision of Joyboy and may not be entirely accurate.
Furthermore, according to the Gorosei, the Nika no Mi had not been awakened for centuries until Luffy recently did so at Onigashima, and it is possible that the last person to awaken the Devil Fruit was Joyboy himself. Considering that the twenty kingdoms had to work together to defeat Joyboy, this would explain Why is the World Government so afraid of the awakening of the Nika Fruit? once again.
4 The Void Century Ends With Joyboy's Defeat
First revealed in Chap #1115
Along with establishing Joyboy's connection to the Ancient Kingdom and his central role in the Void Century, Vegapunk's message to the world also shockingly revealed that the Void Century ended with Joyboy's defeat. That is It is hard to imagine how Joyboy was defeated. if he possesses the same illogical power of the Nika fruit as Luffy as well as what is said to be the strongest Conqueror's Haki in the series.
While Vegapunk doesn't provide any hints as to how Joyboy was defeated, this revelation suggests that Luffy was still able to grow and become stronger after overcoming the aftereffects of using Gear Five.
3 Joyboy wants the ancient weapon to be passed down
First revealed in Chap #1116
While the true purpose of the Ancient Weapons and their creators remains a mystery, one thing fans do know about them, thanks to Dr. Vegapunk, is that Joyboy wants the Ancient Weapons to be passed down to future generations. Vegapunk himself doesn't understand why Joyboy would want this when the Ancient Weapons are capable of mass destruction, which adds a bit of a gray moral tone to Joyboy's character.
Of course, it's entirely possible that these weapons were created for some greater good, and that passing them down is a way to protect the safety and freedom of future generations. However, One Piece reveals too little about the matter to make any concrete statements at this point.
2 Joyboy possesses powerful Conqueror's Haki
First revealed in Chap #1122
The awakening of the Iron Giant is perhaps one of the longest storylines of the Egghead Arc, with One Piece teasing potential developments for dozens of chapters in a row. However, the payoff is well worth it and finally culminates in chapter #1122 with the Iron Giant, or Emet, unleashing Joyboy's Conqueror's Haki locked inside him. In Emet's flashback, Joyboy himself described this type of haki as “the greatest haki”, and this is certainly a correct description.
Sparks from Joyboy's haki were even seen miles away from Egghead Island and this haki defeated countless marines, including Vice Admirals, with Dorry even claiming that Joyboy's Conqueror's Haki was even stronger than Shanks. More importantly, Joyboy's Haki forced the Five Elders to immediately retreat to Mariejois and caused a palpable fear in Imu, once again hinting that this is the strongest Conqueror's Haki in One Piece to date.
1 Joyboy and Nika are two separate entities
First revealed in Chap #1122
One of the biggest sources of confusion in One Piece since the existence of Sun God Nika was revealed is whether Joyboy and Nika are one and the same or two different people. It is not even clear whether Nika ever existed or is simply a legend like other legendary Zoan Devil Fruits.
That said, chap #1122 of One piece finally resolved the issue with Vegapunk finally confirmed that Joyboy and Nika are actually two separate people.. In this chapter, Vegapunk specifically mentions Nika as a legend originating from Elbaf. Vegapunk also states that Joyboy simply fights as the Sun God Nika with a stretchy body, with these powers possibly derived from a Devil Fruit modeled after Nika.
