Captain Laserhawk tackles Far Cry & Assassin’s Creed in a 90s overlay
In 2019, Adi Shankar was revealed to be making the series, and Netflix has officially announced production on the series in 2021. Now, the first full look at the show has arrived, delivering a sound 80s fusion music and dramatic action sequences. Produced by animation studio Bobbypills and directed by Mehdi Laffad, the series is scheduled to have six episodes. It’s described as an “homage to the ’90s,” which is evident in the trailer. It also highlights not only elements from Far Cry in its name and actions, but also shows a character wearing the iconic assassin costume from Assassin’s Creed.
Producer Adi Shankar is also an executive producer on many other projects, including The Gray (2011), Dredd (2012) and the animated series Castlevania, which was released on Netflix in 2017. Shankar is no stranger in bringing the hit video game series to animation, making this a great fit for Netflix’s upcoming Far Cry-inspired series. At Ubisoft Forward 2023, where the trailer was revealed, Shankar described Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix as “a spoof, a satire” combined with backstory fiction and a love story.
Captain Laserhawk Debuts Fall 2023
Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon was released in 2013 and uses a classic approach to its presentation. It uses a synthesizer wave soundtrack and combines cybernetic elements with giant monsters, called blood dragons. It draws inspiration from popular ’80s movies and ’90s 16-bit animation to create a successful spin-off to a successful franchise. Now, the same approach seems to be used with Ubisoft’s latest multimedia project. The trailer focuses on spoof elements believed to be present in the series. While the Blood Dragons have yet to be seen, it looks like they will be coming as even the Power Rangers homage seems to have been revealed in the teaser.
