The second season of Jujutsu Kaisen just ended and more and more people are cosplaying as their favorite characters, especially popular characters of the series, who got more attention in the second season of the anime compared to the first season. In addition to the series’ most intriguing characters – Nanami, Gojo and Sukuna are especially popular choices thanks to their incredible popularity and the fingerprints they create using name extensions corresponding domain. In an incredible collaboration, pop/R&B singer Usher joined TikTok in Gojo cosplay. The artist does not wear the full Gojo costume (or white wig), but he does wear a blindfold, lifting one end to reveal a blue eye while performing Gojo’s signature hand seals. This is the same pose that Gojo used when he first revealed the expansion of his domain to both Yuji and the audience in the first part of the first season.
This comes after Usher jumped into more of the limelight. Back in September 2023, Usher was announced as the featured performer of the NFL Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show in Las Vegas. Of course, much of the conversation afterward revolved around speculation about his set list and who he might collaborate with. In December 2023, Usher collaborated with BTS’s Jung Kook for a remix of the latter’s single “Standing Next to You” and released a music video shortly after the single’s release. Earlier this month, as the next phase of his promotion ramped up, Usher released the trailer for his Super Bowl performance and announced his next album, Coming Home, will be released on Super Bowl performance, marking the release of his first album. since 2016.
“Standing next to you” is relevant for a number of reasons. First, the song plays in the background of Usher’s Gojo TikTok video. But two Jujutsu Kaisen fans (hilariously) have speculated about a possible Easter egg in the remix’s lyrics. In the outro, it sounds like Usher adlibed the word “Gojo,” but this was dismissed as nonsense for weeks. Now that Usher has used that part of the song in a Gojo cosplay, it seems some people have to issue an apology.
Unfortunately for those who have only watched the Jujutsu Kaisen anime, Usher, included a major spoiler in his TikTok caption, so you should avoid it if you want to avoid spoilers. If you understand the spoiler warning, TikTok is linked here. The spoilers are:
“RIP Gojo, we’re standing next to you…” is probably one of the biggest spoilers on the Internet today. When the chapter revealing Gojo’s death was first leaked, every social media site was flooded with manga boards, and then again when the chapter was officially released.
Show/Hide spoilers
At the time of publication, around 4 million people have viewed the TikTok, with millions of additional views from hundreds of thousands of shares, meaning it’s very likely that millions of anime-only viewers will see this spoiler . Obviously, this is a big reveal for those who haven’t been following the manga, and it really speaks to the inevitability of avoiding spoilers at this stage of social media. The Yuji-esque double leak of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga + the official manga release on social media is unavoidable, let alone the posts from the stars and celebrities you have can track. It’s a shame, but maybe this means we’ll see Usher in Gojo cosplay moonwalking on Super Bowl Sunday. Roc Nation has definitely done weirder shows.
