Trigun Stampede aired for 12 episodes from January 7 to March 25 during the Winter 2023 season. Kenji Muto directed the series at Studio Orange while Shin Okashima, Tatsuro Inamoto, and Yoshihisa Ueda all worked on the series' scripts and layout. During Otakon 2023, Producer Yoshihiro Watanabe revealed that the series took five years to make and was first planned in 2017.
The main cast includes Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Vash the StampedeJunya Ikeda as Millions KnivesYoshimasa Hosoya as Nicholas D. WolfwoodKenji Matsuda as Roberto de Niro and Sakura Ando as Meryl StryfeJohnny Yong Bosch reprised his role as Vash in the English dub of the series.
Trigun Stampede is a new work based on the original manga written and illustrated by Yasuhiro Nightow. The manga was originally serialized in Monthly Shonen Captain starting in 1995 but was later transferred to Young King OURs after Monthly Shonen Captain was discontinued. From then on, Trigun's title was changed to Trigun: Maximum, the remaining 14 volumes of the series were published under that name (Volume 1 and Volume 2 under the Trigun title).
US-based publisher Dark Horse published every single volume of Trigun/Trigun: Maximum in English until they eventually released a single multi-volume volume for Trigun and five multi-volume volumes for Trigun: Maximum. The publisher later announced in 2023 that hardcover editions of the Trigun and Trigun: Maximum manga would be released, all of which are currently available for pre-order.
Crunchyroll describes the story of Trigun Stampede as:
Vash the Stampede is a cheerful pacifist, so why does he have a $6 million bounty on his head? That's what puzzles rookie reporter Meryl Stryfe and her jaded veteran partner when they investigate the vigilante only to find a man who hates blood. But their investigation turns out to uncover something sinister—his evil twin brother, Millions Knives.
The Trigun Stampede sequel is set to be released in 2025 with Studio Orange returning to handle animation production.
