Every publisher needs to have this Trigun Twitter user, who has a very specific treatment, on their side.
A Trigun fan account with the username “bigolas dickolas wolfwood” with a much more tame Twitter account @maskofbun has heaped praise on Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone’s 2019 novel This Is How You Lose the Time War on May 6, encouraging their followers and anyone else on Twitter to read the book. “DO NOT look up anything about it,” wrote the fan. “do it now I am very, very serious.” Since this article was published, the tweet has received 7.4 million views, over 110,000 likes, and 12,000 retweets. Two days later, Bigolas Dickolas posted an update in which El-Mohtar wrote a newsletter on her website with the headline “I have been trying to title this post for 20 minutes and without success.” where she posted how she was “inscrutable grateful for bigolas Dickolas.”
El-Mohtar writes: “To say that this does not happen is to invent a new genre of understatement. Her partner showed her the Tweet, leaving her wondering about the identity of this Twitter account with such an unusual username and thinking how this single Tweet got so much traction. Time War buyers. She was absolutely stunned and stunned to see her sudden rise in popularity, ever since Bigolas Dickolas’ viral Tweet, This Is How You Lose the Time War appeared at number 21 in the Book of Above Amazon, and has since risen to 7th place as of this writing. El-Mohtar also cheekily asked if she should return the favor, simply saying “maybe I should enter Trigun?!)”
Bigolas Dickolas’ passionate edict on the masses proved to be effective. One Twitter commenter responded to the post, “I saw this book in the store, I came right after seeing your tweet lol.” Another Twitter user with a Trigun Stampede profile photo just wrote: “You got my attention.” Bigolas Dickolas and another Trigun fan start an extremely noisy conversation, citing multiple lines in the book. Other users were flooded with comments, reminiscing about how much they enjoyed reading This Is How You Lose the Time War the first time they read it. Even Simon and Schuster’s corporate marketing team wanted to learn from Bigolas Dickolas’ book.
Published in 2019, the sci-fi epic novel This Is How You Lose the Time War follows two agents known simply as Red and Blue, who travel through time on behalf of the heroes. their respective countries to win the official conflict. They leave secret messages to each other, which at first begin as taunts and brags before evolving into something neither of them expected: love. However, the discovery of their secret relationship will lead to their deaths and only one side can win the war. This Is How You Lose the Time War also features a four-hour audiobook, narrated by Emily Woo Zeller as Blue and Cynthia Farrell as Red.
Trigun, created by Yasuhiro Nightow, was serialized from April 1995 to January 1997 and was adapted into an anime in 1999. The film is ranked as one of the greatest films of all time with much praise for the strong writing and character development. Trigun was rebooted in 2023, called Trigun Stampede, with the first season airing in January.
