In addition to the “official” figures from Hasbro and Takara, characters from the Transformers franchise have also received toys from a number of third-party companies. One of them is a studio known for making Cang Toys, which is now releasing a high-quality prehistoric collectible that has brought them back from the brink of extinction.
According to Weibo, the new CT-Longyan 02 Pterhowl figure is currently in production, but prototype images of the toy have already been revealed. Based on the classic Generation 1 Dinobot, this collectible soars above its competition in a stylized manner. It also fuses with other toys to form a mighty Combiner, making its brilliance part of a larger whole.
Cang Toys' Pterhowl Prototype Reveals First Look at Dinobot Swoop
As seen on Weibo, new prototype images for Cang Toys' CT-Longyan 02 Pterhowl greyscale working model have been revealed. The project it's part of was revealed via renders in 2022, with Cang Toys aiming to develop an entire third-party Dinobot action figure line. In the case of CT-Longyan 02 Pterhowl, the unofficial adaptation of the character is Swoop, the pterodactyl Dinobot. Based on his G1 form, the model translates the character through a highly stylized filter. In fact, he and the other Dinobots resemble robots from mecha anime like Zoids more than traditional Transformers.
Pterhowl/Swoop transforms from a robot into a metal pteranodon, with wings that can extend significantly in both modes. He also has two swords in robot mode, allowing him to take down Decepticon enemies. Perhaps the character's coolest feature is his ability to transform into the left arm of the Dinobot Combiner, Volcanicus. The ability to combine wasn't something the Dinobots could do in the original Transformers cartoon, but it was added to their prehistoric repertoire in the Transformers sequels. Pterhowl's release date and price are still unknown, but with the prototype apparently solidified, fans likely won't have to wait too long for that information.
