Dragon Ball Super Chapter 103 (Toyotarou & Toriyama Version)
When Piccolo flew away with everyone after picking Pan up from school, Toyotarou's version created an ambient effect, focusing on the sky and environment. Meanwhile, Toriyama's version shows Piccolo remembering Mr. Pan before turning around and waving back. Captioning the post, Toyotarou said: “Actually, on the last page of Chapter 103 when I drew the rough sketch, they all just turned their backs and flew away. To make it look like Piccolo was saying goodbye to the kindergarten teacher – this was Sensei's final edit.
(*I can't post drafts without permission so I've redrawn them as images.)
I heard about his death after I submitted the manuscript.”
So I didn't draw Piccolo with that in mind. …But I can't help but want to add another meaning to it.
Mr. Toriyama. Thank you very much for your hard work.
We have been working together for 9 years. It was a magical time. Thanks a lot. I humbly pray that your soul rests in peace.

Toyotarou sees a deeper meaning in the panel change following Toriyama's departure: “So I didn't draw Piccolo for that purpose. But I can't help but want to add another meaning to it. Mr. Toriyama, thank you very much for your hard work. It's a miracle that I was able to work with you for 9 years. Thanks a lot. May his soul rest in peace.”
Toyotarou and Toriyama have worked together on Dragon Ball Super since its inception in June 2015. The artist revealed a heartfelt message about his biggest inspiration, saying on X, “I draw manga because he wanted to be praised by Toriyama-sensei. it is everything to me.” Many members of the anime and manga community also agree with this opinion.
