Generation Z considers the ‘Christmas Showdown’ of Tokyo Revengers to be a better anime than Pokémon.
As detailed on Anime Senpai, a popular Japanese Keyboard app called Semiji recently asked users to choose their Top 10 favorite anime series. From May 16 to 22, nearly 2,500 participants aged 10-24 took part in a survey to determine the most popular anime of 2023 (so far). Among Gen Z’s top 10 picks is the Tokyo Revengers Christmas Showdown Arc, which comes in at number 3. The iconic Pokémon series, a popular favorite of millennials, comes in at number six on the list.
Originally a manga series by Ken Wakui, the story of Tokyo Revengers begins when a young man named Takemichi Hanagaki discovers that his ex-girlfriend, Hinata Tachibana, has been murdered by a notorious group named is Tokyo Manji Gang. While dealing with the shock, Takemichi unexpectedly “times back” 12 years, giving him a chance to save Hinata by upgrading the group and taking over it from within. During the Christmas Showdown Arc, Takemichi and members of the Tokyo Manji Gang confront the formidable Black Dragon motorcycle gang. Participants who chose the Christmas Showdown Arc as their favorite anime said that they found themselves moved by the series’ compelling plot and the characters’ efforts to protect their families.
Gen Z’s favorite anime is the biggest hit of 2023
Gen Z’s top pick for 2023 is Oshi no Ko, which topped this year’s list for Most Expected Anime and Top Rated Anime. The series is a reincarnation story about a rural gynecologist who is reincarnated as the newborn son of his favorite pop idol, Ai Hoshino. In addition to the novel storyline, the anime also received critical acclaim for its insightful commentary on Japan’s modern pop idol industry. Considered to be Gen Z’s second favorite series is Studio ufotable’s Demon Slayer Season 3, or Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village Arc. The long-running Pokémon anime recently started a brand new chapter with the Pokémon Horizons premiere, which took place on April 14. The series replaces the original anime protagonist Ash Ketchum with two new characters named Riko and Roy, each embarking on a journey. on their own journey.
