As one of the most kid-friendly anime, Pokémon not the kind of show that just kills the right and left characters. However, that doesn’t mean the series has never killed off one of its villains, as at least one villain got what was to come for her in the Diamond and Pearl era. .
The villain known only as “Pokémon Hunter J” first appeared quite early in the Sinnoh era. As a Pokémon thief, J is far more skilled than any other thief that Ash and his gang are. processed up to that point. J has very advanced technology at her disposal, allowing her to turn Pokémon into stone – even Legendary ones – and capture them at her leisure. J is also extremely difficult to track, as she has a spaceship and the entire crew at her disposal. J primarily functions as a mercenary, targeting anything the customer is willing to pay for, from Legendary to fossil Pokémon to normal Gardevoir. However, the last mistake that cost J everything was working with Team Galactic.
Pokémon Hunter J killed by Uxie & Mesprit
In his previous appearances, J has mostly succeeded in his job, even with the intervention of Ash and the International Police Investigative Officer. She even managed to turn Pikachu to stone at one point and certainly saw the value of its power. J took a big job from the Pokémon Villain Galaxy Team, who asked her to get the Legendary Pokémon Azelf, Uxie, and Mesprit for them, though they didn’t explain why. J visits the lake where these Pokémon live and captures them, but not before Uxie and Mesprit use their Future Sight technique to foresee an attack. When Pokémon are turned to stone, J considers her safe and hands them over to Team Galactic, her job done. However, as she retreated on her airship, two surprise attacks struck, disabling its engines and sending the ship plummeting into the lake below. The ship’s windows are said to have been blown off by the underwater pressure, and J’s signature visor slowly sank along the ship to the bottom of the lake.
For Pokémon, the scene is surprisingly clear, leaving little room for J or any of her close friends to survive. J was never seen again after that, nor was she actually mentioned, further suggesting that she ended her life in Lake Valor. Of all the Pokémon villains, J is definitely the one most deserving of this fate; she thinks nothing of getting Pokémon and is only interested in personal profit. She can easily kill Ash multiple times, and each time they encounter each other, she seems to be getting closer to deciding to do so. Other Pokémon Hunters appear from time to time, and anyone using this title faces a cruel and brutal opponent.
While J’s fate is still technically ambiguous, there’s really no doubt that this is a real Pokémon villain that has bitten the dust. It also represents one of the few known incidents when a Legend Pokémon killed a human, proving that their power really is not small.
