The creator of the McDonald’s anime series “Night Mac” thanked fans and the production team for supporting the six-part promotional campaign.
McDonald’s recent series of commercials have won over fans since the first video was released in September. The first clip of a family casually sharing a McDonald’s meal sets the tone for the rest. series, depicting slice-of-life cartoons of “happy, unremarkable times.” The videos evoke wistful nostalgia that appeals to the broad market audience represented in the clip: a family, a “ghost group” on a road trip, teenage friends, a married couple Children on a date, siblings sharing snacks, and a girl relaxing. on a lazy afternoon. The creator of the clips confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that the sixth video concludes the series.
“I once again produced the McDonald’s ‘Night Mac Potenage’ promotional video! This video concludes the Night Mac anime series I’ve been producing since September! Everyone saw it!! And everyone involved in the production!!! Thank you very much!! ” Uraura Ura-chan wrote in an X post, followed by a string of steak and round planet emojis. The animator has succeeded in capturing the feeling of enjoying life’s simplest moments, depicted in brief clips without any captions or dialogue. McDonald’s captures anime pictures of slice of life
The “Night Mac” commercial series is just a glimpse into the slice-of-life genre of anime, and similar scenes can be sampled from the likes of Studio Ghibli’s Ocean Waves, My Neighbors the Yamadas, Whisper of the Heart and From Up on Poppy Hill. Slice-of-life anime often depicts ordinary people in ordinary situations, dealing with the drama (or lack thereof) of everyday life. A popular genre in anime, it often features comedic elements or coming-of-age stories.
McDonald’s has a long history of anime franchises, especially in Japan. Besides anime-inspired advertising campaigns like Fist of the North Star, the company has innovated its products to promote manga and anime franchises. Pokémon is a franchise that periodically appears in Happy Meals, and McDonald’s even goes as far as serving burgers and sandwiches inspired by Mobile Suit Gun’s Red Comet. The “Night Mac” commercial series has attracted a large following, and it wouldn’t be surprising if McDonald’s commissioned Uraura Ura-chan to create more real-life clips for future advertising campaigns.
McDonald’s released the first clip of its “Night Mac” ad series on X on September 20, 2023, with the sixth and final clip of the series to debut on November 5.
