The Isekai genre has been a fan favorite for years, taking viewers on adventures with everyday characters who suddenly find themselves in enchanting fantasy worlds.
However, the new series titled “I was reincarnated as the 7th Prince so I could spend time perfecting my magical abilities” is making waves not only because of its lengthy name but also because Unique approach to character design.

The story takes place after a sorcerer who loves magic but was born as a commoner, lacking the background and natural talent to pursue his passion. After his untimely death, he finds himself reincarnated as Lloyd, the seventh prince of the Kingdom of Salloum, now blessed with powerful magical blood and innate abilities.
Retaining memories from his previous life, Lloyd sneaks into a forbidden library and accidentally awakens an ancient demon that controls the forbidden books. Armed with this second chance, Lloyd uses his extraordinary magical skills to master the arcane spells that eluded him in his previous life.
While the premise may sound familiar to isekai fans, it's the protagonist's character design that has sparked discussion among viewers.
On Crunchyroll, fans were quick to point out the male lead's distinctly feminine appearance. One commenter humorously observed: “Can we buy my son a pair of shorts that are longer, even an inch thicker in fabric?” drawing attention to Lloyd's notably short outfit.
Another viewer quipped: “Someone in this family doesn't.” telling the truth because this MC is totally a princess and not a prince, I've seen many androgynous designs for an anime character but this is something else, lol.”
The androgynous design has caused some to question the artist's experience in drawing male characters. “I have a feeling that the person who drew this child has never had to draw men before, but has only drawn women before… just from the way he looks, the way he stands, sits, not just the body design,” one commenter speculated.
Another said simply, “Art style or not, they sure make him look like a girl.”
Discussion surrounding Lloyd's character design even spread to X (formerly known as Twitter), where user @TopGyaru posted a still image from the anime. The tweet quickly went viral, racking up more than 36,000 likes and sparking a heated debate among fans.

Despite its unique character designs, many fans still embrace the series as a guilty pleasure. As one viewer put it, “although this may seem like a generic isekai, to me it is one of those guilty pleasures, one of those pleasures that is so bad it's good. And it looks like it's going to be quite an interesting trip.”
With smooth animation and a quirky main character, “I was reincarnated as the 7th Prince so I can spend time perfecting my magical abilities” is shaping up to be a memorable addition to the anime Spring 2024, even if it doesn't strictly adhere to traditional character design standards.
