The best games often have endings that leave a very deep impression on the player. It can be a profound message, or difficult to understand, causing gamers to spend days pondering and concluding. However, there are still many developers who choose a more risky method, which is to create haunting and scary endings that make players feel scared for days afterward.
Bloodborne
No one denies the quality and goodness of Bloodborne, but at the same time this is also a tragic work. Throughout the story, gamers will face many terrifying enemies. There are three endings in Bloodborne and here, only one option is not scary, and the remaining two options are sure to bring nightmares to most players.
Specifically, the two scarier endings both require the player to refuse the old hunter Gerhman’s offer to kill the main character. The first option is more tragic, when after killing Gerhman, the player will have to replace that old hunter, while continuing to lead others – like himself into the terrible nightmare he just experienced. The second option will take the player to see the Hunter transformed into a writhing, helpless and extremely scary slug.
Dead Space
It’s no coincidence that Dead Space is considered one of the best horror games of all time. The game is filled with startling, haunting scenes and keeps the player in a state of unease throughout much of the story. Even the ending is the same.
Originally, the ending appeared to show Isaac trying to escape the Ishimura space station, only to be attacked by hallucinations of his deceased girlfriend. But in the remake, Issac calmly talks to his illusion about rebuilding something better. The common point of both endings is that Isaac will never escape the obsession of what happened on the Ishimura ship, with countless monsters and horrifying scenes.
The Forest
Initially, The Forest was only seen by many people as one of the survival horror games stuck on a wild island – a quite familiar motif in recent games. However, things are even scarier than that. As the main character, Eric must work to save his kidnapped son after a plane crash, leaving them both stranded in a strange land with strange humanoid creatures.
After gradually discovering the island’s secrets, Eric must face difficult choices. Leave your son, Timmy, or leave hundreds of people on a passing plane to the same fate as you and your son, Eric, or you will have to choose. And no matter the decision, this will definitely be a haunting ending.
