Recently, members of a forum on Reddit were immersed in a heated debate about what are the “3 best isekai anime in history” according to each user's opinion. The isekai genre has become incredibly popular over the past decade, continuing to be a hot topic of discussion among anime fans.
The isekai genre is characterized by stories in which the main character is teleported, reincarnated, or trapped in a parallel or alternate world. This world is often fantasy in nature, with elements such as magic, mythical creatures, and unique power systems. Isekai anime allows viewers to explore an imaginative world through the eyes of a character who often has to adapt to new rules and challenges in order to survive and thrive.
The popularity of the genre has skyrocketed in recent years, leading to the overproduction of isekai manga/anime. This explosion of content has had a significant impact on the quality of many of these works. With so many isekai anime flooding the market, fans have noticed a decrease in originality and story depth. Many works use clichés and repetitive formulas, causing some viewers to feel bored about the genre.
Despite those issues, the Reddit debate proves that the isekai genre still has a passionate fan base who find gems in the plethora of titles available. Forum participants shared opinions and debated what makes an isekai anime memorable and worthy of being in the top three.
– My own top 3 would be Re:Zero (because of the incredible character development and the main character being depowered, but that doesn't make him useless), Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation (because the development of Rudeus as a character and his world-building), and The Eminence in Shadow (for its humor easily surpasses KonoSuba!).
– For me, it would be Isekai Ojisan, Campfire Cooking in Another World with my Absurd Skill and Re:ZERO, in that order.
– Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken for the perfect balance of seriousness and humor, Log Horizon because I appreciate its MMO technical depth, and KonoSuba! because of its high sense of humour.
– Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, Re:ZERO and KonoSuba!, no doubt.
– Ascendance of a Bookworm, Overlord, KonoSuba!, in that order.
– Re:ZERO, Mushoku Tensei and Overlord. I think these three series laid the foundation for the isekai genre, any new isekai series is simply an imitation of one of them.
– Welcome to Demon School Iruma-kun, KonoSuba! and Fantasy Bishoujo, all three are quite original.
– KonoSuba!, Sword Art Online and Re:ZERO are the most suitable.
– Kyousougiga, Kamikatsu and Flip Flappers.
– Digimon Tamers, Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken and The Saga of Tanya the Evil.
