Sung Suho’s adventures as the son of the great Shadow Monarch begin in Solo Leveling: Ragnarok.
According to Redbeanime, Solo Leveling: Ragnarok, the spinoff series featuring Sung Jinwoo’s son, debuted on April 9 with a huge gift for fans. A total of 105 chapters have been released for the spin-off webnovel series, along with a new trailer to celebrate the release. Chugong, the author of the original series Solo Leveling aka Only I Level Up, chose not to write the spin-off. Instead, the creator of Dungeon Reset and Infinite Reset, Daul, will write Ragnarok.
Solo Leveling Original Authors Support New Writers
Considering the popularity of Solo Leveling, Daul noted that they felt pressured to take on the role of writing the spin-off. In the author’s note, Daul wrote, “I will do my best so that Only I Level Up: Ragnarok’s story continues to bring readers joy. We hope you enjoy and care in the future!” Chugong also wrote a congratulatory message for Daul, thanking the writer for continuing the story and expanding the world. Although another author wrote the series, Chugong said he still experiences the same emotions as when he first started publishing Solo Leveling. “A new level up world just for me, author Daul will open! Congratulations on starting a new story and I will be cheering for you!” Chu Cong wrote.
Ragnarok follows Sung Suho in his third year of college, who finally unlocks his powers after his father sealed them away when he was young in hopes of giving his son a chance to live a normal life. The portal started to open again, and suddenly a message appeared in front of Suho, greeting him as a Player, listing the quests he needed to ‘level up’. All the dreams he had as a kid, about battles and flying ants, weren’t a dream after all.
Solo Leveling’s popularity has led to adaptation
Chugong wrote Solo Leveling in July 2016, where it was serialized on KakaoPage before being published in full by Papyrus under D&C Media. The series revolves around a notoriously weak E-Rank Hunter named Sung Jinwoo, who becomes a Player in a chapter called System after surviving a life-threatening Dungeon raid. Through training and completing quests, Jin-Woo quickly rose to the top as the strongest Hunter in the world with seemingly limitless power . The Solo Leveling series has been adapted into a webcomic and an anime.
Solo Leveling: Ragnarok has yet to reveal whether there will be a webcomic adaptation. The novel Solo Leveling is officially licensed by Yen Press, where Vol. 7 will release on August 22, 2023.
