ICv2 tracks manga sales data using the ComicHub POS system in stores, which updates after each sale, and the Circana BookScan system for online stores. The ComicHub system is used in more than 100 stores, widely distributed throughout the United States. While the data feels fairly widespread, it’s not certain that at least 2,000 stores could sell comics nationwide. However, the love for the Berserk series was evident last month with the release of the remake of the 1997 Berserk: The Complete TV series. Despite its hefty price tag of $54.99, the Blu-ray rose to No. 1 on Amazon, beating out titles like Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and Nia DaCosta’s The Marvels.
Kentaro Miura’s Berserk legacy continues through his successor
The Berserk manga was inherited by Kouji Mori and Studio Gaga, both of whom supported original author Kentaro Miura before his death. Mori continued to be open about the internal conflict he encountered while continuing the series but decided to do so with Miura’s blessing. He also revealed in a 2023 interview that the last manga he wrote with Miura was in fact not Berserk but D.Diver. The second series, currently serialized in Hakusensha’s Young Animal magazine, is something Mori has wanted to do for years. Mori emphasized in the interview how Miura motivated him to overcome his doubts.
