The popular anime Dragon Ball Super ended its television broadcast in 2018 after airing the climactic story of the Tournament of Power. This epic tournament pits warriors from multiple universes against each other, with the entire universe at risk if their team loses.
While fans may enjoy the dramatic matches and battles, it’s important to remember how this tournament originated. The two child-like Omni-Kings, Zen-Oh, came up with this idea because they wanted the workload to be easier in the future – by simply destroying most of the remaining universes. This callous excuse for global destruction may have been cloaked in the excitement of battle.
What’s even more disturbing, however, is that years before this tournament, the Omni-Kings destroyed entire six universes on a whim.
The lives of countless creatures were instantly erased. Android 17’s last-minute wish at the conclusion of the Tournament of Power saved the remaining universes from a similar fate, but those previously destroyed were not so lucky.
The Dark Deeds of Zen-Oh
The startling revelation that the supreme Omni-Kings, Zen-Oh, accidentally destroyed six entire universes before the Tournament of Power raises incredibly troubling questions.
According to the Dragon Ball Super manga, the vague explanation given is that a total of 18 universes are too cumbersome for a child-like Zen-Oh to oversee. Thus, the six universes, with all their civilizations, cultures, and life forms, were accidentally erased.
Later, during the confrontation with the remaining twelve universes, the same reason was given – that managing so many realities had become tedious for Zen-Oh.
As a result, the Tournament of Power was devised to drastically cut the number down to just four universes, with the remainder destroyed. Clearly, the lives and existence of countless creatures are considered unimportant nuisances, confirming Zen-Oh’s pettiness and callousness.
Thankfully, Son Goku’s proposal for a fighting tournament gave the universes a chance to save themselves through battle. But that doesn’t change the fact that Zen-Oh destroyed six entire universes because of a little inconvenience and boredom.
This should give fans pause about the character of an amoral, unrestrained god with the power to erase all reality in a fleeting mood. The anime glosses over this, but it raises deep moral issues nonetheless.
Discover the disturbing origins of cosmic destruction in Dragon Ball Super
More disturbing revelations emerge about Omni-Kings Zen-Oh in Dragon Ball Super regarding the previous destruction of all six universes. According to the anime, Zen-Oh’s childish temper led to this callous act.
Enraged during a game with his alternate self that involved accidentally destroying planets, Zen-Oh went on a rampage and destroyed all six universes, erasing them from existence.
This paints an even more alarming picture of the supreme god’s psychological state. For the Omni-King, destroying universes containing countless living creatures is akin to a rage – a disturbing impulse carried out purely to vent frustration.
It affirms Zen-Oh’s complete indifference to life similar to the detached angels. However, unlike them, Zen-Oh possesses limitless power to make such reckless decisions on the fly.
Unlike a rational leader or guardian focused on protection, Zen-Oh’s choices seem to be based entirely on whims and momentary moods. The wanton destruction of not only planets but entire civilizations on a cosmic scale indicates a deeply broken moral compass.
Although played for light entertainment in the show, in reality such deranged behavior would be considered deeply troubling at best. It makes the Omni-King’s stability questionable despite his ultimate power.
The potential for resurrection of universes has been erased
In light of the seemingly careless obliteration of the entire universe at the hands of Zen-Oh, a natural question arises – can those destroyed civilizations be restored?
Interestingly, Dragon Ball Super suggests that yes, it is even possible to revive after Omni-King Zeno’s destruction, through the Super Dragon Balls.
These mystical spheres, created in the distant past by the dragon god Zalama, were considered capable of granting literally any wish without limits.
Their power is such that it can override Zeno’s own erasure, as they have no equal in the hierarchy of gods in Dragon Ball mythology.
This is demonstrated in the final episodes of the Tournament of Peak Power storyline. Here, Victor Android 17’s final wish is to bring back all the universes that were wiped out by Zen-Oh earlier in the tournament as punishment for losing.
The Super Dragon Balls successfully neutralized this act of sabotage, confirming that Zeno’s judgment was not necessarily absolute.
