The much-anticipated seventh season of the popular anime series My Hero Academia will premiere in just a few months. Fans are excited to reconnect with their beloved characters and see the next chapter in the clash between heroes and villains.
Season 6 ended with some major battles left unfinished, sparking speculation that season 7 could continue unfinished battles or could introduce entirely new confrontations.
One of the most impressive reveals of season 6 was the unmasking of fiery villain Dabi as Toya Todoroki, the long-thought-dead son of hero Endeavor. Toya was seriously injured in an accident when he was a child.
Believing his family had abandoned him, newly baptized Dabi devoted himself to revenge on Endeavor and Todorokis.
In a fleeting moment of grief, Dabi shed bloody tears, possibly the painful aftermath of the same accident that scarred him so long ago.
The rich backstory provided for Dabi and the Todoroki family promises to continue driving dramatic and character development in the new season.
Fans are eagerly waiting to see how these revelations will impact future storylines and relationships.
Dabi’s heartbreaking origin and path of revenge
Years ago, during a catastrophic forest fire, Toya Todoroki (later to become the villain Dabi) was severely burned and was presumed dead by his family, including Endeavour’s father. However, he was actually rescued from the fire by All For One, the powerful super villain.
Unfortunately, while All For One saved Toya’s life, he was unable to completely heal all of the boy’s injuries. Specifically, the extreme burns destroyed Toya’s tear ducts, making him unable to cry real tears at the present time.
This explains why when Dabi appeared emotional in the following chapter, he instead cried blood – possibly due to internal bleeding related to his old injury.
Dabi’s bloody tears also symbolize the deep disappointment and pain he still feels over his family’s abandonment and perceived betrayal during that fire. Although it seemed like a terrible misunderstanding when Todoroki thought he was dead, the damage was done.
A bitter Toya abandoned his old identity, became the villain Dabi, and devoted himself to revenge on Endeavor.
This cruel backstory comes to light in Chapter 290 when Dabi takes control of a nationwide television network to accuse Endeavor of being inconsiderate and negligent towards his eldest son, eventually leading to his death. The child’s form was violently deformed.
Dabi aims to destroy his father’s reputation as a hero in the eyes of the public – revenge for a life of suffering and resentment towards his family.
The rise of Dabi and the haunting legacy of Endeavor
My Hero Academia chapter 301 begins to shed light on the origin of Toya Todoroki, Endeavor’s eldest child, who will grow up to become the villain Dabi.
Toya inherited his father’s powerful fire powers, displaying even greater potential than Endeavor. His fire grew hotter and many believed that one day young Toya could surpass his father and become a hero.
At first, the Todoroki family’s life seemed happy. Toya’s mother, Rei, gave birth to another child in the hope that he would not be lonely. His younger sister Fuyumi was born, manifesting only their mother’s ice powers.
However, everything changed after Shoto’s appearance, when Endeavor became obsessed with training him to defeat the #1 Hero All Might.
Endeavor begins to neglect his responsibilities as a father and husband, ignoring Toya in favor of Shoto. Longing for the approval and attention of his beloved father, Toya begins to use his powers dangerously excessively, repeatedly returning from the forest injured after practicing alone.
But the more damage Toya suffered, the more praise he received from his father.
This cycle continued until one fateful day when Toya’s unstable fires flared out of control, burning vast swaths of forest. All that was left of the boy was a blackened jawbone.
Search teams assume Toya is dead, leaving Todoroki’s family grieving the loss of their son and brother.
When Toya finally woke up, All For One manipulated the child’s pain and resentment, convincing him that he had been abandoned and forgotten by his family. Exploiting Toya’s mental trauma set the stage for his transformation into the villain Dabi.
In the following chapter, while lying down and cursing his relatives, Dabi sheds bloody tears – a condition medically known as haemochromatosis.
Since his tear ducts were destroyed in the fire that nearly killed him, these tears are actually blood coming from the inside related to his old burns.
