Kamome Shirahama, the manga artist behind the Witch Hat Atelier, drew fan art of Disney’s The Owl House.
Dana Terrace, author of The Owl House, shared fan art of Shirahama from the Disney Channel series on Twitter. “I came back briefly because I just saw this,” said Terrace. “I was melted. I am a puddle of water. This is so cute. Thank you! And for those of you looking for a magical, eerie, heart-pounding story about empathy and self-discovery, please help and read The Witch Hat Factory!!!”
Witch Hat Atelier is a fantasy manga series written and illustrated by Shirahama. The story revolves around a young girl named Coco who aspires to become a witch. However, like the plot of My Hero Academia, Coco was born into the magical world without any of her own. After a chance encounter with a witch named Qifrey, Coco is now one step closer to making her dream come true. The Witch Hat Atelier anime adaptation was announced in April 2022 but information regarding the staff and release date is still scarce. Kodansha handles the release of the English manga.
Similarities Between Witch Hat Factory and Owl House
There are similarities between the Witch Hat Atelier and The Owl House. In The Owl House, 14-year-old Luz Noceda stumbles into the wizarding world and becomes the apprentice of “The Owl Lady” Eda Clawthorne. Now living in the Demon Kingdom, Luz learned how to be a witch at The Owl House and later formed a same-sex relationship with former villain Amity Blight. The series recently ended on Disney Channel, often praised for its positive depiction of LGBT+ relationships. However, fans took issue with Disney’s sudden cancellation of the series, citing allegations that it didn’t fit the Disney brand.
The Owl House is available to watch in its entirety on Disney+. Witch Hat Atelier Volume 10, the latest English version of the Shirahama magic series, launches on November 29, 2022.
