A new anime adaptation is in the works for Tite Kubo’s Burn the Witch manga.

According to Anime News Network, the 23rd episode of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War ended with a special trailer for Burn the Witch 0.8, the sequel to the 2020 Studio Colorido/Team Yamahitsuji film Burn the Witch. This OVA, titled Burn the Witch #0.8, is based on the opening chapter of the main manga, providing important context for the events of the main series. The official Burn the Witch website has confirmed additional staff and cast details about the upcoming production, but there is currently no official release date.

Burn the Witch #0.8 features the same main cast as its predecessor. Asami Tano (Zombie Land Saga) and Yuina Yamada (Anima Yell!) take on the roles of Ninny Spangcole and Noel Niihashi, respectively. Shimba Tsuchiya, Rie Hikisaka and Hiroaki Hirata will also take on their respective roles as Balgo Parks, Osushi-san and Team Leader. Tatsuro Kawano, who is also known for his work on the 2018 fantasy film Penguin Highway, will reprise his role as director. It has not yet been confirmed whether screenwriter Chika Suzumura will return to write the script.

The first part of Tite Kubo’s Burn the Witch manga debuted in Shonen Jump in July 2018. Although originally published as a one-shot, four additional chapters followed in subsequent issues of the magazine. The story is set in a fantasy world where invisible but powerful creatures called dragons have wiped out more than 70% of the human population. In an alternate dimension called “Reverse London,” two young witches named Ninny Spangcole and Noel Niihashi work to fight the dragon threat as members of Wing Bind, an organization dedicated to controlling and dragon management.

In addition to Burn the Witch, Tite Kubo is also known for the best-selling supernatural manga Bleach, which launched in 2001 and currently has more than 130 million copies in circulation worldwide (as of November 2022). The story revolves around Ichigo Kurosaki, a high school student who gains the power to fight spirits and demons from a death god named Rukia Kuchiki. While Kubo ended the manga series in August 2016, the most recent anime adaptation, Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, premiered in October 2022. The long-awaited conclusion to the original anime Pierrot’s 2004 series, the series chronicles Ichigo’s efforts to restore balance between the human and spiritual realms. The Season 2 finale of The Thousand Year Blood War is scheduled to premiere on September 30.

Burn the Witch is available to stream on Crunchyroll. The original manga is available in English on VIZ Media.
