The spring 2024 anime season is shaping up to be huge, with the highly anticipated returns of hit shows like Demon Slayer and KonoSuba.
But a new anime series debuting this season has created a lot of buzz because of its unusual premise. “Re: Monster” follows Tomokui Kanata, a man who is stabbed to death and wakes up in a fantasy world as a newborn goblin named Gobrou.

In a genre where goblins are often low-level monsters killed by the hero, this show's protagonist finds himself reincarnated as one of these creatures.
Produced by Studio Deen, known for popular anime such as KonoSuba, Fate/stay night and The Seven Deadly Sins, this new isekai (transported into another world) series puts a twist on the genre. by having the human protagonist reincarnated not as a powerful hero but as a vile elf.
Together with Goblin Kichi, another powerful newborn goblin, Gobrou began hunting prey and improving his skills. The two are then joined by Gobbi to form a trio that slays increasingly powerful monsters.
By consuming the prey they defeat, Gobrou quickly gains new abilities, putting him on the path to potentially becoming an Overlord Goblin.
However, he retains his human memories and sensibilities, leading to some humorous mental conflicts with his new elven instincts and physiology. His human intelligence gives him an advantage, but he will have to do everything he can to survive in this harsh new world.

The series promises plenty of action as Gobrou powers up his gluttony by killing and eating stronger enemies. But it also aims to mine humor from the absurdity of a human mind trapped in a goblin body, as well as touching on some darker themes surrounding the circumstances of Kanata's death when still a human being.
With the growing wave of anticipation among isekai fans, “Re: Monster” is becoming the sleeper hit of spring. The series will premiere on April 2 and will stream on Crunchyroll.
