Are Yuji Itadori and Choso really brothers? Author Gege weighs in
In Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 episode 13’Red Scales’, the character Choso gained the advantage over Yuji in their fight when he suddenly saw a “Non-Existent Memory”.
In this vision, Choso observes Yuji sitting around a picnic table and sharing a meal with his two siblings (Eso and Kechizu), it is assumed that Choso and Yuji are actually brothers-but this may be true. What’s the benefit?
Well, there are three main theories regarding their potential relationship:
The first theory – Yuji and Choso are blood brothers and blood brothers. Theory Two – The two are not actually brothers and it was Yuji’s hidden technique ‘Memory Manipulation’ that caused Choso’s false vision. Theory Three – Choso and Yuji are not biological brothers but share a common ancestor.
Theory One is the first and easiest to disprove: Yuji never had a sibling in the first place, and neither was Choso himself even human – he was one of the three Cursed Wombs : The death painting was created in a laboratory by mixing a cursed soul with a person.
The second theory initially seems to have some legs as Yuji actually possesses a hidden technique that has not been revealed in the anime and the Memory Manipulation technique could be used in such a way.
However, Jujutsu Kaisen manga author Gege Akutami addressed this part of the theory and refuted it.
In a 2021 interview with Mando Kobayashi (translated into English by Twitter page’Soukatsu’), Gege confirms that “false memories do not foreshadow or mention any technique” and adds that “Todo and Choso both see memories that never existed for different reasons. due to differences.”

This brings us to the third and final theory on whether Yuji and Choso are actually brothers: Certainly the most solid theory about the three – is that the two are related due to have a common ancestor.
From the information gathered in the manga series, it turns out that Kenjaku (Psuedo-Geto) possessed the body of his ancestor named Noritoshi Kamo, and used Choso’s mother to give birth to him and his two siblings Eso and Kechizu.
Later in chapter 143, it is revealed that Yuji’s mother Kaori Itadori was also possessed by Kenjaku – or at least the same brain that once possessed Choso’s father, and now Pseud-Geto.
Kenjaku became a ‘third parent’ to both Choso and Yuji when he was involved in their mother’s pregnancy, passing on many of his abilities and traits to these two characters.
This means that although Yuji and Choso are not biological brothers, they can be considered half-siblings as they both share the same parents – despite the Curse and Curse techniques affecting How specifically it affects fetal development in the Jujutsu Kaisen world is unknown.
