Cygames’ upcoming original anime, Bang Brave Bang Braven, sees the return of mecha veteran Masami Obari in a creative role. Unusually for the latter, the new anime seems to favor a more grounded image, with robots that look mass-produced for conflict. The official trailer has set a release date for January next year so mecha fans can expect a winter of heavy metal.
Cygames Pictures doesn’t often produce anime on its own, and Obari hasn’t directed an anime series in a while, so it’s surprising – but welcome – to see them collaborating on a console show. hook. What’s more surprising is that, despite the odd title, the trailer plays off of a grounded military thriller.
While the scenes are certainly action-packed, it’s still a far cry from the colorful battles of Gundunda. However, fans of the genre will certainly be happy to see Obari back in action and they have high hopes for this new series.
Bang Brave Bang Braven promises an action thriller about Mech in the near future
Cygames’ first official trailer, hosted on its YouTube account, included a summary of the anime. Translated it says:
That was the time when the humanoid armored weapon “Titanostride” (TS) was developed. Troops from many countries have gathered on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. Isami Ao of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force and Ao and Lewis Smith, both members of the United States Marine Corps, met in the midst of battle. Suddenly, they were attacked by planes of unknown origin, and the soldiers scattered helplessly.
The near future is not a common setting for mecha, last notable being the YouTube original series Obsolete. It’s also not what one would expect Cygames Pictures to produce as their second television production, since their last work on Princess Connect! Re:Dive, an adaptation of the company’s mobile game – essentially making it an in-house product. That doesn’t mean they’re completely strangers to science fiction, however, as they’re also the people behind the excellent Blade Runner: Blackout 2022. Between these two, Cygames has proven that they can achieve high standards of animation excellence.
Obari, who directs the production of this new film, is a familiar name to mechanical enthusiasts. He is the man behind the mech designs for anime such as Gravion and Dancouga, and directed many mech shows, the last of which was Gun Build Metaverse ONA. Typically, he is associated with “super robot” anime, where larger-than-life machines, powered by strange energy sources, perform incredible yet visually striking attacks. statue. It is therefore quite surprising to see his name attached to a program depicting mass-produced weapons being flown by military pilots. Even the show’s title, Bang Brave Bang Braven, sounds like it’s about a heroic robot.
With a premiere date of January 2024, Braven will air close to Synduality: Noir’s second season, making this an exciting winter for mecha fans. The two programs offer a variety of options; Cygames’ follow-up features some great looking mechs and a real-world setting that should provide plenty of intriguing intrigue with governments and militaries jostling each other both on and off the battlefield. Anyway, Bang Brave Bang Braven is another welcome addition to the winter lineup and the last chance to see Obari back at the helm of a television series.
