After countless initial delays due to a change of director, followed by the COVID-19 pandemic and a slew of legal issues and allegations surrounding star Ezra Miller, “The Flash” is a solid bet. sure for Warner Bros.’s ongoing superhero future, as recent DC movies have failed to maintain the momentum of last year’s “The Batman.”

North American superhero movie weekend grosses (Measure all Marvel and DC movies released from 2022 onwards)
In general, the superhero movies of 2023 don’t have the same high openings as 2022, but DC in particular has really struggled with their two most recent DCEU films. “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” flopped at the box office in early 2022, with interest dropping significantly after an unimpressive opening.
“Black Adam” released in October 2022 certainly did better than that and reached just under $170 million in North America. But the film’s overall global performance, which has been buoyed by other Johnson-starred films (such as “Hobbs and Shaw” and “Jumanji,” which was a hit before the pandemic) is nevertheless an understatement. The results were quite bad with an investment cost of 195 million USD. With a production cost of $200 million, “The Flash” could have a similar problem if it doesn’t work out.
“The Flash” is notable for the return of Michael Keaton as Batman and revolves around the same multiverse formula that many “Spider-Man” franchises have leveraged to huge success.

The most recent movie is “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” which opens this June. Contrary to opening projections, “Across the Spider-Verse” grossed over $120 million versus $80 million originally projected, a potential sign of the predictions that “The Spider-Verse” Flash” will gross a probable $70 million opening.
Miller’s Flash included part of the main cast in both versions of “Justice League” and appeared in the previous DCEU “Batman v Superman” and the first “Suicide Squad”.
Review site Rotten Tomatoes also gives “The Flash” a slightly higher score than “Aquaman” and much better scores than “Black Adam” and “Shazam!” sequel, with over 100 reviews compiled from critics to date.
“Aquaman” eventually went on to gross billions of dollars and exceed $300 million in North America, while “Wonder Woman” grossed over $400 million domestically. Also, with “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3″ earned the bulk of the total, with “The Flash” being the only live-action superhero movie showing two months before DC’s “Blue Beetle” hits theaters in late August.
Miller’s missteps won’t last long, but current DC co-president James Gunn has said there are no plans to re-hire him even if Warner Bros. want this character to stay. In terms of box office alone, “The Flash” is well worth the extra chance.
