Megan Thee Stallion is kicking off Halloween with a new anime-themed costume based on the Soul Eater anime series.
On Stallion’s official social media accounts, the hip-hop artist showed fans her Death the Kid cosplay for Halloween. Along with posting photos of herself as the son of Death, Stallion also shared her artwork with Demon Twin Guns, Liz Thompson and Patty Thompson, as Black women. Currently, no artist has been credited with creating the Soul Eater artwork.
This isn’t the first time Stallion has dressed up as an anime character. She has previously cosplayed Shoto Todoroki and Rabbit Hero: Mirko from My Hero Academia, as well as dressed up as characters from Kakegurui and The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. In contrast, anime artists also love Stallion. An assistant for the manga My Hero Academia used photos of the American rapper as reference for Mirko’s fan art. The rabbit hero known as Rumi Usagiyama is drawn wearing the same outfit as Stallion wears to various public events and in the same pose.
The female artist has never been shy about her love for anime. In a previous interview with AnimeFitLa, Stallion said she is watching anime such as Highschool of the Dead, Assassination Classroom, Soul Eater, Hunter x Hunter and Attack on Titan. She even decorated her nails in Blue Exorcist style.
Of course, Stallion isn’t the only Western celebrity who loves anime. Michael B. Jordan, star and director of Creed III, acknowledged the influences of Dragon Ball Z and Akira on the boxing trilogy. American singer-songwriter Billie Eilish wears the official image of Tamaki Kotatsu from the Fire Force anime. Atsushi Ohkubo, creator of Soul Eater and Fire Force, approved her outfit on social network X.
Soul Eater and its spin-off Soul Eater Not! available on streaming services such as Crunchyroll. The Fire Force anime series is also available on Crunchyroll and Hulu.
