“Whirlwhind, Himari, Roar” is a somewhat undercooked episode of Chained Soldier, but just like the first bowl of brownie mix your mom gave you dealt with that one time when you were six, An unbaked dessert can still be a delicious treat. All it does is it’s a little more doughy than usual, and you really want to make sure it stays in the oven long enough next time. Salmonella is no laughing matter.
My main problem with this week’s episode of Soldier in Chains mainly has to do with the fact that it was contrived and had no payoff. From the moment a whole group of new girls show up to make Yuuki’s life more complicated, the film immediately finds itself trying to accomplish a lot while also trying to settle on very little background. rock to the end of everything. Aside from learning a little more about Himari and her controversial relationship with her sister Yachiho, the episode doesn’t just give a very superficial reason for Team Six and Team Seven to stage a battle. exhibition” and then enticed us along the way. show the cliffhanger seeing the credits roll just when something exciting is about to happen.
It doesn’t help that Himari has yet to overcome my initial impression of her as the least interesting of the Team 7 girls. She’s not a terrible character at all; I don’t find her particularly interesting as a rote tsundere archetype with a sizeable chip on her shoulder. She fits perfectly as a supporting character, and I will admit that the joke about her not understanding what Kyouka meant when she described the price of Yuuki’s power as “physically demanding” It’s kind of funny, but that one good joke isn’t enough to do it. carry the entire episode.
(I can give Himari one more compliment: Her special “reward” for Yuuki’s Greninja transformation is perhaps the most successfully sexy scene of any of the show’s fanservice scenes to date.)
Overall, I didn’t leave “Whirlwind, Himari, Roar” feeling betrayed or disappointed. Rather, I was still as completely “overwhelmed” when the episode ended as when it began. It’s an acceptable way to kill half an hour. Not much, not less.
