The origin is also related to the entire history of the Duel Monsters card game and Kaiba’s past life as an advisor to the Pharaoh.
The original Duel Monsters game was played in ancient Egypt, where the player would summon the souls of real monsters to fight. These monsters are often manifestations of human souls, sealed within stone tablets until they are used in battle. Many modern-day characters in Yu-Gi-Oh! The Blue-Eyed White Dragon that sacrificed his life for Seto in Yu-Gi-Oh’s past!
The blue-eyed white dragon was originally the Ka of the ancient Egyptian girl Kisara, whom Seto had saved from slavery as a child. Later, Seto met Kisara again and saved her from being stoned for her unusual appearance. After discovering Kisara’s powerful Ka, Seto’s father asked him to extract her soul and use it to take over Egypt. Seto fell in love with Kisara and so he refused. Enraged, his father tried to kill Seto, but Kisara saved him by sacrificing his own life. After this tragedy, Seto extracted Kisara’s Ka into the White Dragon and used her powers in battle against both the Pharaoh and the evil spirit Zorc.
While the modern-day Kaiba is unaware of this story, his past life inadvertently influenced his obsession with the card. Although he may not have intended it, he has moved Kisara’s memories more touchingly than his original counterpart. The Blue-Eyes White Dragon Card is rare, with only three copies surviving after Kaiba destroyed Grandpa Yugi’s copy. Instead of letting this card sink into oblivion, Kaiba has plastered its image on his company’s products, even owning a private jet with the image of a Blue-Eye White Dragon. Some might see this as Kisara’s memory-draining behavior, but by doing this, Kaiba celebrated her Ka as one of the most iconic cards in the franchise.
