Kohei Horikoshi brings good news and bad news about the state of his iconic superhero manga My Hero Academia.
According to Comic Book and Redbeananime, the My Hero Academia series will get another break as it approaches its final chapters. The manga’s creator, Horikoshi, announced in the most recent issue of Shonen Jump that he would be taking a break from the series, missing the magazine’s June 11 issue. “I will rest for a while. I’m so sorry!” However, he also promised: “I will be strong for the final sprint” when the film returns. The manga’s next chapter will ship on June 4, with a break after that.

Horikoshi has taken several hiatuses from the series throughout the year, prioritizing her health and happiness over manga production. The industry is known for its tight deadlines and demanding work schedules, with many famous artists discussing its harmful effects on their health. For example, Eiichiro Oda, the author of One Piece, has been very open about his health, recently revealing that he continues to work on the series even while hospitalized. In addition, Yoshihiro Togashi, the author of Hunter x Hunter, has gone through many long-term hiatuses due to ill health.
My Hero Academia is currently in its final season, known as the “Last War” part, which is part of the next “Last Act” story. The series has been serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump since 2014, becoming one of the magazine’s most popular and profitable modern properties. The most recent chapters focus heavily on the Todoroki family being divided as Endeavor, Rei, and Shoto Todoroki try to stop Toya Todoroki from his relentless assault on the Hero Association.
Additionally, the manga’s anime series recently ended its sixth season in March 2023, ending with a spoiler that saw the arrival of a new hero from America. It adapted the “Mystic Liberation War” and “Dark Hero” seasons, bringing the series to 138 volumes overall. Season 7 has been officially confirmed, with no release window announced at the time of writing. The franchise also received a recent update on its live-action adaptation, with the possibility of revealing the Class 1-A cast.
