The anime series Apothecary Diaries (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto) released a preview for its 8th episode on November 18. The episode is titled “Wheat Stalks” and will air on November 25. The episode is summarized as follows after:
One day after spending the night at her father’s house, Maomao is taken to the brothel by a trainee prostitute who is looking for Luomen, the pharmacist. At the brothel, a prostitute and a man drank poison and lay there. Maomao, who had trouble wherever she went, quickly saved them and treated them with Luomen. Maomao left the brothel when they both recovered, but she felt strange about the stories she had heard. So she deduces the truth behind the suicide attempt.
Apothecary’s Diary is a light novel series written by Lucy Hyuga and illustrated by Toko Shino. It was serialized by Shunfunotomo. This light novel series has inspired a series of manga and anime adaptations. The manga adaptation was written by Itsuki Nanao and illustrated by Nekokurage and published by Square Enix and serialized in the monthly magazine GanGan. Norihiro Naganuma is in charge of directing the anime series with TOHO Animation and OML responsible for animation production.
The series also inspired a short anime series called Maoamo’s Diaries (Maoamo no Hitorigoto). Maomao’s Diary features main character Maoamo as she explains the main entries that were shown in the week’s current episode. The light novel series is licensed and published digitally by J-Novel Club. The English version of the manga adaptation is licensed and published by Square Enix. Square Enix will also publish an English version of the light novel series starting in May 2024.
