Summary
Goku vs Frieza: The most epic and impactful battle in Dragon Ball history, it introduced the Super Saiyan and cemented Goku as the ultimate hero. Goku vs Jiren: Facing a formidable opponent, Goku unlocks the iconic Ultra Instinct and saves the universe in a breathtaking fight. Gohan vs Cell: This battle introduces the passing of the torch from Goku to Gohan, introducing Super Saiyan 2 and turning Gohan into a powerhouse.
Throughout all ages Dragon ball canon, there are always some horrifying fights going on. Since this is a series about planet conquerors, internationally recognized martial artists, and even literal gods trained to fight by angels, the lack of fight scenes throughout is no exception. What’s surprising? However, not all fights are rated equally, as some are better than others.
The true measure of an iconic battle in Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball is not simply the level of power brought to the ring by the fighters themselves, but its broader significance in lore, as well like the impact any battle has on the fandom as a whole. And so, here are the 10 best Dragon Ball matches of all time, ranked.
10 Goku vs King Piccolo
This fight is perhaps the first true exhibition of Goku’s power in Dragon Ball canon. In Dragon Ball’s classic King Piccolo Saga, the evil villain King Piccolo successfully took over the world and plunged humanity into an age of chaos. However, before his reign could truly take hold, Goku challenged the Demon King and found the strength to kill him and save the world.
Although Piccolo was later reincarnated as a hero (which Piccolo fans know and love today), he was originally an apocalyptic villain, as well as an archenemy Goku’s general at the time.
9 Goku vs Vegeta
Just as King Piccolo nearly destroyed the world, so did Vegeta when he arrived on Earth during Dragon Ball Z’s Saiyan Saga (specifically Saiyan Saga part 2: Vegeta Saga). So naturally, Goku has to step in and save the day. However, while his fight with King Piccolo was the first time Goku truly reached an unparalleled level of power, his fight with Vegeta proved that there are warriors even he cannot defeat.
Vegeta effectively won his first battle against Goku, making this an epic moment for both Vegeta as a newly introduced character who will continue to play a major role. in the series and for Goku as the main character, who already knows that he is not invincible. perhaps he thought.
8 Goku vs Lord Beerus
In Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods, the God of Destruction Beerus comes to Earth in search of the Super Saiyan God. With the guidance of the Eternal Dragon Shenron, Goku unlocks this seemingly mythical transformation and pilots it to battle Lord Beerus, saving the world while doing so.
Not only is this one of the most visually impressive battles on this list, but it also introduces Goku and Vegeta to a whole new path of power, changing the landscape of Dragon Ball legends since that point onwards – making this fight as impactful as it is aesthetically stunning.
7 Goku vs Jiren
Just like many matches before it, the fight between Goku and Jiren in Dragon Ball Super’s Tournament of Power forced Goku to face an opponent he could not easily defeat, and opened up a new opportunity for him. a level of power he had never touched before. Jiren is one of the most fearsomely powerful enemies the Z-Fighters have ever faced, and given the fact that they must defeat him to save their entire universe (more or less), the stakes cannot be high. than around this jaw -fight.
It was during his fight with Jiren that Goku first unlocked the iconic Ultra Instinct, meaning this battle had an impact far beyond this storyline alone.
6 Monsters Gohan vs Cell Max
If Goku’s battle with Lord Beerus was one of the most visually impressive battles, then this battle is certainly the most visually impressive. Taking place in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, the fight between Gohan and Cell Max is one of the epic battles for many reasons. Not only does it decide the fate of the entire world, but it also puts Gohan in the role of the main character for the first time since the beginning of DBZ. Plus, it gives Gohan a long-awaited god-level transformation in the form of Beast Gohan.
After this fight, Gohan went from being a rather disappointing and incompetent member of the Z-Fighters during the Superman era, to a fighter said to be even stronger than Goku and Vegeta.
5 Goku & Vegeta vs Black Frieza
The importance of this battle lies not in its visual impressiveness or its heroic victory, but in the complete contrast of both. In Dragon Ball Super chapter 87, after Goku and Vegeta unleashed Ultra Instinct and Ultra Ego respectively in their fight against a seemingly unstoppable Gas, Frieza appeared and killed the Gas with a single attack. Frieza then transforms into Black Frieza, unleashing a new transformation that makes Goku and Vegeta look weak.
Indeed, Black Frieza completely took down Goku and Vegeta with a single shot – not each of them together. A level of power that can overcome angels and gods to such a level of madness is one that demands the collective attention of fans, making this fight one for the history books. History of Dragon Ball (even if it’s extremely short).
4 Gogeta vs. Broly
Before defeating Vegeta and Goku in their strongest forms, Frieza recruited the legendary Super Saiyan Broly to destroy his Saiyan enemy on his behalf in the movie Dragon Ball Super: Broly. In that movie (which was Broly’s canonical first appearance in the current Dragon Ball sequel), Broly took on both Goku and Vegeta while both in their Super Saiyan Blue forms, and he absolutely destroyed Surname. It wasn’t until Goku and Vegeta merged into Gogeta (also the first time this happened) that they were able to truly fight against Broly.
This battle brings some of the most beloved non-canon aspects of Dragon Ball into the series’ main storyline, and proves to be one of the most satisfying battles of all time.
3 Gohan vs Cell
Gohan’s battle against Cell not only introduced fans to the Super Saiyan 2 transformation – as Gohan was the first Saiyan to reach that level – but also proved that someone other than Goku could take down main antagonist. This battle is truly one for the ages, as it represents the official passing of the torch from Goku to Gohan in terms of Dragon Ball’s ultimate power, something that would not be fully realized until Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero – thus confirming the legacy of this particular battle.
Although everything this fight set up and set up was effectively erased during the Majin Buu Saga (when Goku briefly became the only one able to defeat the ‘final boss’ again), the remnants of its impact can still be felt today in the Dragon Ball Super Era.
2 Goku vs Majin Vegeta
There are few battles more iconic than Goku vs Majin Vegeta – or more accurately, there are few battles more intense than Goku vs Majin Vegeta. While the impact of this fight wasn’t as great as some of the others and the true displays of strength were something fans had never seen before, the epic visuals and heartbreaking tone of this fight were things that no DBZ fan will soon forget. Majin Vegeta gave DBZ fans the original ‘Villain Vegeta’ back in truly sinister fashion, while Goku was literally fighting with a halo over his head. The image of good versus evil is obvious, and in many ways this fight feels like a retelling of their first battle, albeit infinitely more intense.
Beyond what this fight may or may not show, Goku and Vegeta fighting each other will almost always be the most entertaining spectacle a Dragon Ball fan could hope to see, and this is it. The worst of all their conflicts.
1 Goku vs Frieza
This is definitely the most iconic, most impactful and epic battle of all time in the Dragon Ball legend. Goku confronts Frieza on Planet Namek in Dragon Ball Z’s Frieza Saga. At the time of publication, this storyline succeeded as follows: introducing fans to the Super Saiyans, revealing the history of the Saiyan race was established at the start of DBZ, and portrayed Goku as not only a hero of Earth but also a Saiyan who avenged his entire species by eliminating the very evil that controlled and murdered them.
Goku vs Frieza is the most important battle in Dragon Ball historyand no amount of power-ups or upgraded anime graphics will change that.
Each of these battles is a visual spectacle that has a huge impact on the world around it, some simply more impactful than others. After considering those factors, we can confidently affirm that this is the Top 10 best Dragon ball Battles of all time, ranked.
