The latest Mobile Suit Gun movie is getting a promotion from an unexpected ally: Hello Kitty.
According to Oricon, parent company Sunrise and Hello Kitty owner Sanrio have collaborated on a rather strange form of advertising. To commemorate the release of the Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom movie, the companies released images uniting their characters. The result is a combination of Cosmic Era’s familiar Cosmic Era characters and Sanrio’s friendly mascots.

Those attending the theatrical premiere of Mobile Suit Sword SEED Freedom will receive promotional cards and a short story that continues the plot.
The new illustrations involve Sanrio characters interacting with the heroes of Gundunda SEED which fans will definitely recognize. Released in two styles, these images either match the art style of Mobile Suit GTA SEED Freedom or follow the “cute” feel of Hello Kitty. Hello Kitty herself is seen with Athrun Zala, while Kira Yamato and Lacus Clyne are accompanied by Cinnamoroll and My Melody. These are just preliminary images, with more artwork featuring other SEED Freedom and Sanrio characters to come.
Given the popularity of both of these properties, it makes sense for them to combine. After all, Gundunda is considered Japan’s Star Wars, while the Hello Kitty brand is present all over the world. This is also not the first time these two brands have crossed each other. Bandai previously released Hello Kitty-themed plastic model kits, combining the Sanrio mascot with the iconic RX-78-2. With Mobile Suit’s Space Age timeline GTA SEED Freedom being the second most popular sequel in the Gun franchise, a new art spend is expected across the franchise.
