Studio Ghibli launches its biggest-ever slate of theatrical touring dates for some of its most iconic titles in 2024.
Continuing the box office record of Studio Ghibli Fest 2023, GKIDS in collaboration with Fathom will screen 14 Studio Ghibli titles this year, breaking the previous record for the number of films shown at the event. According to a press release, they will include Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle celebrating its 40th anniversary, Kiki's Delivery Service — celebrating its 25th anniversary — and more. Ticket sales begin on March 22, 2024 and can be ordered online through FathomEvents.com, GhibliFest.com and participating theater box offices. While fans can reminisce about Ghibli's iconic past, the studio's future received a positive boost following founder Toshio Suzuki's somewhat positive comments about Hayao Miyazaki in last week. He revealed that Miyazaki would no longer appear in public due to irresponsible statements in the past that he had retired from filmmaking, and the director was afraid of making the same mistake again. This follows Suzuki's comments from October 2023 that Miyazaki is “thinking about this next project every day.”
