Steam is very famous for its safety, privacy as well as factors that promote security for users. However, the guarantee factor is not always maintained 100% anytime, anywhere with every game. Even recently, Steam gamers are feeling very scared when they can completely become victims of hackers, losing everything through a new problem.
Accordingly, gamers of the game Slay the Spire are probably more haunted than ever when the hackers’ latest trick was just announced. Originally a deck-building strategy game and released in 2017, Slay the Spire has a large number of players and the most interesting part is the variety of mods. There is no denying that it is the mods that have made the game successful, but now they are causing more harm than ever. It all started when a mod called Downfall was recently hacked, spreading malware to all Steam users who downloaded it.
In a new post on Steam, the creators of the Downfall mod admitted that their project was heavily attacked this past Christmas. Someone uploaded a malicious file to the mod and was active for an hour. Members of the mod team had their Steam and Discord accounts taken over – resulting in an inability to warn the community quickly. And the result is quite tragic when if players open Slay the Spire’s Downfall mod, they will immediately get a virus and Unity library pop-up. Here, this malware will try to steal users’ passwords from Internet browsers or through services like Discord or Telegram and even Steam accounts.
In fact, this is not the first time that mods have been so rampant at the hands of many hackers. Last June, a very popular mod of Minecraft also became the target of attacks by crooks and of course, in the end, the people who suffered the most damage were still the gamers.
