Yor meets Loid and Anya on the island. Anya is happy to know that Yor can spend the day with them. Therefore, the trio did everything like caving, cycling, visiting sheep farms, diving, etc. When the day ended, Yor was exhausted and she fell asleep on Loid’s shoulder. Anya also fell asleep so Loid had to carry them both back to the ship. After they arrived home, Loid received a briefing from Sylvia about what little WISE knew about the incident on the cruise ship.
On the first day of school, Anya felt proud to go on a field trip. However, when Becky learns of this, she just dismisses it as “meh,” even though she stayed in a superior suite while on the cruise. The whole class laughed at Anya for admitting she was in a third-class prison. Furthermore, the class was more interested in the fact that Becky had famous people coming to visit. Anya lied to try to make her trip sound more interesting, but in the end, she just laughed scornfully.
That evening, Yuri came to see Yor. When Anya gets home, she reveals what happened at school. She decided on the real truth, that she lied to make herself seem more important. Loid comes up with a lesson about lying, but decides to just tell Anya that lying is bad. Yuri thought of a criticism against liars, but chose a similar statement “lying is bad”. So Anya decides that lying is too much (to do right), so she tries to stop.
Another fun time is in store Spy×Family 35, although the whole “lying on lies” humor is not my cup of tea. But that didn’t stop me from liking the episode.
Modifications to Source Documents
Manga chapters 56 and 57 were combined to create Spy×Family 35. Several filler and filler scenes had to be done to fill the time.
There are buffering scenes throughout the trip to the island, such as a stroll through a cafe and an extended shot of the cruise ship preparing to leave. Nothing offensive though. The scene where Yor gives a bad souvenir to her co-worker is not in the manga that I know of. But I don’t have a problem with that other than giving souvenirs to colleagues after vacation is a Japanese custom, not a Western one. Likewise, the scene where Loid gets the house ready for Yuri’s visit is unique to the anime. Again, no problem here. The scene where Yuuri is eager to meet Yor is also only found in anime. All three of these scenes provide some additional continuity to establish what is about to happen. They are supplements, but I’m fine with it.
Other than that, everything is honest and that’s always a good thing for me.
One of the more adorable things of
Perhaps the most interesting part of this trip is watching Loid go from upset to accepting of his fake family. Initially, his attitude was to be annoyed when Yor and Anya fell asleep on him. So he had to carry them back to the ship. But in an act that could be considered true love, he realized what Yor had sacrificed for Anya. So he happily carried his “wife” and “child” home. Truly, it was just a lovely moment.
Although I didn’t like the story in the second half of Spy×Family 35, but I’m not a fan of a comedy based on a character telling stories to little pigs. I often find them quite creepy when appearing in some of my favorite British comedy shows. And there’s definitely a level of discomfort to Anya’s lying in the episode. However, in this case, I understand where Anya is coming from. As children (and maybe even adults), we want to be accepted and respected by our friends. So when Anya did something special and found out her classmates considered it nothing, I understood her desire to lie. But that’s not funny to me.
On the other hand, when Anya confessed what happened to Loid, Yor and Yuuri, I laughed at Loid and Yuuri’s internal monologue about their lying and reality telling Anya. There’s no doubt Anya read their minds and hopefully we won’t see Anya lie like that again.
Final thoughts and conclusion
In the ending, Spy×Family 35 is another great episode in a great anime series. Sadly, it looks like the next episode is the last, at least for a while.
