Spy×Family 33
Summary/SPOILER Summary
Yor leads Olka’s group past the ship. However, she finds suspicious men on various routes leading to the escape boat. So she takes them upstairs, using the ongoing fireworks show as cover. However, a large group of assassins is waiting for them. Yor dodged a sniper shot. The director eliminates the sniper, then uses the sniper rifle to cover Yor. To that end, Yor takes Olka’s group through the trapdoor. Jeb uses his body to protect Olka and her child.
After securing the hatch, Yor and the director began slaughtering the would-be assassins. The director commented on the mess they had to clean up. The main assassin approaches with the survivors. Yor wanted them to leave, but they refused. A swordsman appeared, seriously injuring the director. Yor realized this man was superior to the others. As she fights, she questions her motives for becoming an assassin.
The swordsman defeated Yor. The path was cleared, the assassin led to take care of Olka’s group. However, Yor threw a sharp knife weapon at him to stop him. She thought of her new, adopted family and broke the man’s sword. Now on his feet, Yor was ready to face the swordsman.
Back home, Yury got sick. He was taken home by his SSS superiors. While there, Yury remembers the sacrifices Yor made for them as children. His superior brought back a herbal tea similar to the one Yor used to make. Drinking (and guzzling) it, Yuri declared himself better, but his superiors ordered him to rest.
Thinking/Evaluating
Another exciting episode is about to be enjoyed in Spy×Family 33.
Modify source documents
Manga chapters 51, 53, 53 and Short Mission 8 were adapted for creation Spy×Family 33. Like usual, the adaptation is very faithful to the original. I love it!
My only gripe with the adaptation is that some scenes aren’t as clear as they were in the manga. The anime has an accurate depiction of the nighttime atmosphere. I appreciate that very much. However, the scene where Yor kicks a heavy crate is shown differently in the anime and manga. In the manga, the “camera” clearly shows us the container above the hatch, but in the anime it is not clear. We only get Yor commenting on the inaccessibility of the trapdoor (which is present in the manga), but without seeing the blocked trapdoor, everything is lost.
However, this is just a small quibble that I wish the anime guys did better.
Yor’s Dilemma
I really appreciated the character arc given to Yor in Spy×Family 33. During this part of her journey, Yor questioned why she was still working for the Garden. And finally, her new adoptive family gave her the motivation to continue. I love it. So even though Yor is a big boss lady, the fact that she appears like an actual human being means her character is adorable and endearing. Compare that to the trash Hollywood puts out, where the female boss character is an insufferable jerk.
I suspect that Yor’s inhuman abilities will be explained somehow in the series before it ends. Considering Anya’s abilities are the result of human experimentation, I wouldn’t be surprised if Yor and her boss get some physical enhancements done to them.
Still, I love seeing Yor in action. And I loved seeing her challenged in this episode.
Final thoughts and conclusions
Let me end my review with some final thoughts.
Anya and Loid are reduced to guest roles in this episode. Still, I loved seeing Anya enjoy fireworks the way any child would. Yuri’s story does break up the action, but that’s why the anime team left the end credits where they did. That effectively allowed them to add this side story. Although I didn’t mention this before, in the source manga, this omake story takes place during the journey arc. I love that anime production teams can take advantage of things like that.
Final, Spy×Family 33 is another really fun episode from my favorite, modern series.
